I've played around with these ideas for a while but to no avail. I thought I'd mention them here to see if anyone else will have a stroke of brilliance.

Problem: Because I drive a convertible, I use the smoked lense to make it as visible as possible in direct sunlight. However the amber lense matches my stock lights perfectly and looks much cooler, especially at night.

Possible answer #1- Some sort of quick release system on the facia so that changing lenses on a daily basis wasn't such a pain. I checked on pin style releasing bolts but none that I could find were small enough. I also thought about cutting lenses so that they sat on the screws and could be removed through the top of the facia with totally unscrewing the facia, but I dropped this idea early on.

Answer #2- A lense with a film that changes color in direct sunlight or due to tempature... much like sunglasses do.

Any thoughts....

I knew someone was going to say this... . I would but if a second empeg is purchased it would go to my wife. So to fix my problem I'd have to but two more.

Greetings!

A sick thought.

How about getting an extra fascia from the empeg folks (if you ask nicely, they might have one for sale), gluing the lens and the fascia into a single piece (quicker swap) and replacing the front screws with some sort of ...

hmm... I don't know if they are made for this or what they are called, but I am thinking of a spring loaded clamp, similar to a small alligator clip that you would use for electronics testing...

Better option:

Change your car's dash lighting to green.

The sunglasses idea is intruiging. Anyone know what that photosensitive film on them is called? Or where one could get some?

The photosensitive pigments in transitions lenses react to the uv in sunlight. In cold temperatures, they will get very dark on sunny days. Most of the time the pigments are imbedded in the lens material, but a company called Beloptix has been coating the front of their lenses with a photochromic coating. Im not sure anything would be available much larger that 82mm. Maybe theres a non optical manufacturer utilizing the same idea for window panes??

I'd rather accept the occassional embarrasment - it all adds to the humour of this place.

Unless they've improved it lately, no, it's not. The spell-check features in OmniWeb are. Spell-check-as-you-type is definitely the way to go.

I don't think I've ever heard the term ``good music'' applied to the band Great White before.

Then again, they didn't write that track...it was a remake of the Ian Hunter (Mott the Hoople) original. (Although, the version on my empeg is Great White). I like it, so I guess that makes it "good" to me.

The version on my Empeg is from Great White also (left over from my headbanging days). My admiration for Ian Hunter comes from his involvement with Gen X and the original punk movement anyway (oops... now I'm showing my age).

Agreed. I just wish I had my Mac laptop now so that I could run OmniWeb anywhere.

And unless I'm mistaken, the type as you go spell checking is actually part of the OS, and can easially be added to any application. I really hope Chimera adds it soon if this is indeed the case.

Heh, no. I was talking about "Project Chimera", another Mac OS X only browser. Well, that is unless your one of the developers and are actively boycotting type as you go spell checking

Well that's a relief then. I figured it wasn't me from the context and the slightly different name, but I figured I had better check.

And No, the browser is nothing to do with me, nothing I write runs on Mac OS X.

True, but OmniWeb is the only browser I've seen support it. And I prefer it to Chimera, Navigator, etc. largely due to the fact that I'm running it on a toilet-seat iBook with only an 800x600 screen. It works way better at low resolutions than most of the other browsers do, plus it remembers window positions much better.
