Is this classed as off topic ??? Will there be a version of Emplode to work with the Riot soon ???

I have had the Riot for about 5hours now, got 2Gig onto it so far. I am already in love, one of the best mp3 players I have seen for the money, but the PC software sucks. Why can't I just drag my mp3's onto it in Windows Explorer ??? It would be a much better solution.

Is there any chance of Beta testing any version of software that would cut out anything with Real in the title ??? Please, I don't think I can take much more of it.

The Riot rules once you have got the music onto it, why does it get mixed reviews against the iPod ???

Cheers

Cris.

No one except SonicBlue people can nswer your first question, and they have mostly avoided it so far, but...

Have you used an iPod? I'll admit that I haven't used a Riot, but I can't imagine that it could possibly be better than the iPod. For one thing, it's over twice as big. Beyond that, I just don't know.

Well size and the pc software is a huge pile of poo.

As to real player if you are careful when installing and take proper precautions like let it do nothing it wants, hiding my hammer, it isn't too bad i took the extra precaution of installing it on my girlfriends pc as well. Maybe that is why she dumped me though :P

i think the ipod is slinkier a bit more polished, behind the riot in quite a few areas but ahead in others but as you should know they can't kick sand in the face of a empeg.

The riot with empeg type software and file taxi abilities would rule but from the sneaks about the pearl i will buy one.

I know son of emplode is out for the new flash type rios i might get bored and download it and see if it likes the riot or not.

I don't know if the new software for the riot is offical i have a feeling it ain't

Unless rob wants to comment

Yea, I've used the iPod. At half the price of the 20Gig iPod, I think the Riot is great so far, a few little bugs.

Size, mmm, I like it. I couldn't loose it ;-)

The only thing I don't like so far is the playlist situation,or lack of it, wish it was more like my Empeg.

Cheers

as i stated in another thread just a while earlier... rob has hinted many times in reply my persistant whining about the Real software that soon we will see some great stuff for use with the riot... i'd guess when the Pearl comes out... but that's just speculation.

I couldn't pass up the riot deal from Sonicblue. I love it! Granted the riot is no match for my empeg, but it's a great little device.

If Emplode worked on the Riot it would be SO much better. Real does suck.

I saw it there to.

I think Rio Music Manager II will work with Riot. It's not #1 priority which is why I'm not promising it, but AFAIK it will. RMM2 is better than RMM1 which ships with the flash players right now.

so RMM 1 doesn't work for sure eh? You're lucky Kelly can't make it to the dinner Friday or you'd get an earful about it. LOL.

Did you have any luck with the Rio Music Manager software?

Also did you find a download or have to purchase it?

I just got a Rio Riot for $106 off EBay from Sonic blue. It is very cool but agree the software stinks.

Emplode for the Riot would be GREAT!

$106?! WOW. Man, those things are going for a steal these days. I should pick one up just to hold onto for a gift or something. 20 Gig mp3 player for $100. Nice.

I had recently gotten one for $169 for a gift and then could not pass up bidding when 47 came up on one sale. Only a few went (not all 47) so watch Ebay they'll probably be back.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=15061&item=3005450598

It says factory rene but it is in all the original plastic, it looks “brand” new to me.

Just would really like some better software. Maybe it will come.

Actually they did all go, as I was in there at $104, someone came in at the last minute and bidded $106 on all 47, so anyone who had bidded higher got theirs, as did everyone who had already bid $106.

I figured for $104 I could get one to tide me over until Pearl arrives, but I guess that is not the case, are they worth getting as there are some up for $135 and I was kind of looking forward to having a new toy

I thought (probably wrong) the guy who bid for all 47 was a Sonicblue guy.

I like it and think it is worth up to $169. The software stinks but the operation of the player is good. After all most of the time you are running the player and not uploading tunes (can’t download). It does not have all the options that the Empeg has but heck, for a little over $100 what do you want.

I really couldn't justify spending over $200 for one no matter what it did. However I am cheap.

Looking at some of the other stuff he bought and sold, it looks like he is in to fish, and with a name like aquatic gallery I think it confirmed it.

And I cannot see why the Sonic Blue guy would bid for them all himself, I think there were about 4 of us who missed out at below $106, and I would have thought that for sales for $104 would have been better than not selling them at all?

So is the unit any good, Is it worth me springing $135 on? I have also been looking at Yammp in particular the Yammp7 as I have a few of those displays kicking around, but the biggest CF card I have at the moment is 256MB, which is a bit short of the Riots 20GB of storage. On the other hand though the Yammp looks very hackable, so it may give me something to do once my current projects are done.

I think it is every bit worth $135. I spent $200 of mine when the first had the sale and I don't regret it at all. Anything that can hold 100's of cd's in a small package like the riot is worth $200. I like to feel of the riot as opposed to some of the other options out there. Granted it's no iPod, but the price of the iPod is insane! The riot suits my needs perfectly.

OK, I have done it, $149.70 including shipping.

Just have to wait for it to arrive

Hmmmm, hope PCA doesn't get the second batch of tuners ready until after I am paid again

Edited to remove surplus words

Don't think you'll regret it. Now if we could just talk the Empeg guys into getting Emplode to work with the Riot.

Hey, if they can’t do it I bet the JEmplode crew could

I posted that but I guess the riot uses a completly different protocol and there is no info about it avaliable to the public so I can't see it working with jemplode ever.

I would be nice to see some better software or have it work with the rio central but I think the riot is pretty much dead.

I paid 400 for mine.

And REAL SUCKS !!!!!

Emplode isn't likely to support the Riot. We're not actively developing emplode. We are, however, developing Rio Music Manager 2 which is a whole other ball game.

As long as something maybe in the works that's good enough for me. Anything would be better then the current offering.

Thanks again for all the hard work you and your group are putting in. I guess we all got spoiled with the amazingness of the empeg and all it's features. A catch 22?

I hope you cut-price-Riot purchasers realise you're going to have to buy another player in a few months. How will you be able to resist a hard disk portable which builds from the same code base as your car player?

I was under the impression it was at least 6 months out. But hey, if it's sooner I know I won't be able to resist. The riot would make a great "gift" for someone else!
