Those would have to be pretty small rears to fit backseat in a Supra!

Maybe some amputees..

Channel Tunnel, drive your car onto the train. Probably expensive.
Dover - Calais ferry. ~4 hour crossing IIRC, Leaves you with a bit of a drive to Holland.
Dover - Ostende ferry. ~4 hour crossing, leaves you just over the border from Holland.
Not sure if it still runs, Harwich - Hook of Holland ferry. ~11 hours

Depending on location, also:
Hull - Rotterdam & Zeebrugge
Newcastle - Amsterdam
Overnight, must book a cabin

Also, how does one take one's car from the UK to the Continent? Ferry? Car tunnel I don't know about?

Assuming that you mean a UK hire car, I seem to remember reading that the hire companies, discourage it and charge a lot extra. It may be cheaper to fly/go as a foot passenger and get another hire car in Holland(for one thing the steering wheel's on the correct side).

Or you can take the HSS from Harwich to the Hook, which takes 3-4 hours. See here.

No. I was just curious. It looks like I won't be able to make it again, due to lack of funds.

Channel Tunnel (Chunnel) drive straight on (usually), takes 40 minutes to France, drive straight off. Fast, but expensive (+25%)
Dover Calais - 75 mins crossing, 3.5 hours on motorways direct to Amersfoort. We normally do this and can make it London - Amersfoort in 7 hours.
Dover Oostend - 3.5 hours crossing, about 2.5 hours to Amersfoort. The boats are not as nice, and the distance/time is about the same.
Harwich Hoek van Holland - about 3.5 hours on the HSS (superb! We went on the bridge last time, like a massive speed boat, all controlled by video consoles and two joysticks. Has two Boeing 747 engines to power the water jet thrusters. Brill!!!!) with about 1 hour to Amersfoort, all motorway.

We usually choose Dover Calais boat if we want to go to SE/SW England, and Harwich Hoek if we want to go to the Midlands/East. Plus we have shares in P & O which makes it a lot cheaper via Calais

Question how tall is Hugo? You people seem to devote an awfully large number of posts to picking on his vertical challenge. He doesn't look that small in pictures.

So you have to pass Berne (Swiss capital city) too.... Let me know! The train form Berne - Zurich takes about an hour.

Will you be at Amersfoort this year?

Thomas & I may try to find you in Bern regardless at some point!

I am really not sure, if I go to Amersfoort!
The distance between Tom's Schliengen and Berne is about 1.5 hours. But as you was writing, regardless of the meeting you are welcome.

bye

Hey Tony!

Are you coming to Amersfoort? Good use for any frequent flier points you might have piled up.

Considering it. Considered it last year and didn't, maybe it'll happen this year. Should get on the ball and get organized if I'm going to do it...

It's an easy journey as well - an hour of driving from Cambridge to Harwich, then four hours of sitting around playing blackjack on the HSS, then another hour or so from Hook of Holland to Amersfoort.

It's clear from that photo that Hugo has pulled rank on Lucie by :

- making her stand behind him
- making her slouch

All so that he can appear to be taller than her

Which would work, if you couldn't see that he's kneeling in the picture.

I'm 5'7" (taller than Tom Cruise).

And taller than my boyfriend (not by much). And as tall (taller than some) as most of the guys I'm here in Phoenix with.

Please, that's not even short. Slightly below average, but not exactly short. If you were 5'2", I'd understand this.

So should I go through the photo galleries and mock everyone else's physical shortcomings?

That wouldn't be very nice, would it?

But you just said it wasn't a shortcoming.

I don't think anyone would consider this any more than a good-natured ribbing. If any of us got the impression that he was offended by any of this, I'm sure we'd stop. (Fortunately, though, my picture is nowhere to be found.)
