Any thoughts on supporting the new mp4 standard on the empeg? I just found out about this ACC standard, so I have not heard it yet. Does anyone know of any encoders and/or players that will use it now on a windows machine?

Licensing the codec is easy. Playing Apple's protected files is probably not.

PS. It's AAC

Well, considering that support for the Empeg ends this month. Probably never. I'm hoping someone will come up with a solution to it, as I would really like to be able to play the tunes from apples music site.

Right. ``Support''. Which, in this case, means ``fixing broken ones''.

well, a work around that you may have already tried, if there is something you MUST have, I have found that converters will convert mp4s to wav files (yes, I know YUK!) but alas, though I tried, going from mp4 to wav to mpg with only errors to show

Whoa, nifty web site. Nice work.

Filled out profile, complete with avatar, before the first post. Neat avatar, too.

Impressed.

Welcome.

Questions: Did the WAV file play correctly? What tools were used at each stage?

i'm on a mac primarily, but i used SoundConverter to convert the mp4 to a wav file. Then I used "get info" to change the "open with app type" from quicktime to itunes (don't ask me why I did this) then I ftp'd the file to the pc (jempg for the mac is WAY too buggy) and loaded it that way, word of caution, for some reason 1 out of 5 attemps to load into emplode gave me an error - so, go figure [WAV identity failed] - i have emailed the iTunes support team on if I can redownload purchased music as mp3s, first off - i doubt they will get back to me, and second, I'm almost positive they will say no :/

ok - i'll fix the avatar

That's very odd. Never heard of that before.

If you double-click on one of those WAV files on the PC, will it play?

yes, wav files play everytime on the PC (windows media), it's just the loading on the empeg that's the hitch, some sort of internal security tag i guess

Can't imagine anything about the internals of the empeg software having a problem with the file like that... it doesn't try to do any security at all...

What version of the player software and emplode software are you running? (There is an ABOUT menu on both Emplode and on the player.) And by the way, instructions on how to put the latest ones in place are here in case you don't have them.

version 2.0 on the player, 1.1.10.8 on the software

Interesting. If emplode really does say 1.1, it shouldn't be able to upload to the player at all. They both need to be 2.0 or else you should get an error in emplode.

Unless you're talking about JEmplode, that's a different monkey....
