Always interested. Date(s)... I have no idea, I'm fairly open.
One note though; I think we should try and do something somewhere other than SF. A little change is good. Not to mention the fact that just getting there and parking is a bit of a hassle, for me anyway. I think we'd be better off going to some place in a smaller city which will be easier for everyone to get to, not be as crowded, have free parking, and a large parking lot. Or am I just crazy?

That sounds good. There are TONS of places around here to consider. Maybe a multi-day meet where we could hit one (or a couple) of the amusement parks around here (Marine World, and/or Great America). Maybe go to a comedy club. I don't know. Seems like the multi-day meets only happen back East. I think we're missing out.
Sure the main reason we're getting together is because of the Empeg, but it doesn't have to be the focus of the activities.

I've mentioned it a few times, but I still think " car weekend" in Monterey in August would be a great time/place to have it. The eye candy is endless as you drive around town. For those interested in actual events, there are historic car races at Laguna Seca, The Concourso Italiano with endless italian cars, and multiple car autions at night. This year it's the weekend of August 15-17.
For those not interested in cars, there's the Monterey Aquarium and many beaches and other forms of entertainment.
If people are interested, I'd be happy to organize. I'm not sure how big/long of a meet we'd be interested in, I've only been to lunch/dinner meets, but ithe trend seems to be towards multi-day empeg-fests.

I agree that sounds like a great idea that I would certainly try to make. Not sure if I would be up for a multi-day event though.

Monterey sounds like a good idea to me. Though i too wouldn't be down for a multi day event... i'll be lucky to have one free day.

Well I certainly like the idea of heading south. I actually haven't ever made it down to Monterey since I've lived out here, so that would be great for me. How does the car weekend work? Do we need to register to show our cars, or is it more along the lines of a gut, or a cruise, where cars just show up?

Not really. There are plenty of events going on, but it's usually enough to just wander around town and observe. Hanging out downtown in the evening is plenty.
So, who all is interested in a Northern California meet?

So, who all is interested in a Northern California meet? I always am. As long as it doesn't conflict with the weeks surrounding the Amersfoort meet.

Although I've been to the bay area a hundred times, I've never been to Monterey. How far is it from the San Jose airport?

About 75 miles to Cannery Row.
Oh, and I'm in as well.

I'm still up for it. August 16th? I'm actually about to head out to the restaraunt I think would probably be best for it. It's a nice place in the middle of a business park that should have plenty of parking on a saturday. My general thought would be meet around noon, have lunch around 1:30. From the response to this thread there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of interest. Are more people going to come out of the woodwork, or are we straying too far from San Francisco?

I'm in, though the 16th specifically is probably not going to work for me. 23rd? 30th?
Monterey is fine with me, but then I live near Santa Cruz.
Edit: I just read the reasoning for the 16th. Makes sense, but I have another commitment on Saturday. Friday or Sunday would be fine.

Me too. So who is going to talk Rob V into sending over some CDs of the current alpha for us to play with so we don't feel left out?

Glad to see there is still some interest, but I guess it really depends on the date and location for a lot of people. Whats cheap/avaliable ot stay at around the area?

Rob if you do decide to drive, the directions you got for the Salt Lake City area are messed up(#16-#21). They changed all the freeways right before the Olympics. You may want to spend the night here as it is. 10 hour drive to Sacramento going 10 over (Them Nevada HP can be mean!). If you do decide to drive, let me know, and I can give you better directions, etc..

I would like to drive, but I have a job and driving would take too much time. If I get fired, expect a black Saab 9-3 Viggen at the meet.

Date and location is a definate concern. I'll be in Truckee Aug 9/10, and again Sept 20/21 for races. If the meet is around there on either of those weekends, I could make it. Otherwise, I'll have to wait for the next SoCal meet.
