Does anyone else here have a big head? I'm not talking about ego; I mean I have a big cranium, and most of those dimestore sunglesses simply don't fit. Add in the fact that the bridge of my nose is wide, and I've got pinch city.

So I'm tired of spending $10 (or whatever) on a pair of sunglasses that seem ``good enough'' in the store, only to never wear them because they are uncomfortable when on my face for more than five minutes.

And I really need a pair of sunglasses. It looks like it's going to be a bright summer and my light-colored eyes are causing me to look like Mr. Magoo.

So does anyone else have a big head that can suggest a real sunglasses company to look at? I think I've heard folks mention Oakley as having good-for-fatheads frames, but I'm not really too thrilled about paying $200 for non-prescription glasses. Should I go to a real optometrists and let them help me? I'm at something of a loss, as I don't wear glasses normally. Though I should get my eyes examined at some point anyway.

I have a huge head. I have never met a non-adjustable hat that fits me. I have to adjust baseball caps to the last one or two notches.

That said, I have a nice pair of Killer Loop sunglasses that fit me quite well. I wish I knew the model, but they were what looked good in the store. Plus this was about 3 years ago. My sunglasses last a long time.

Funny story: when I was about the age of most of the kids you see in the commercials, my parents took me to Disney World. There wasn't a pair of mouse ears in the park that fit me

Size 8. Grrrr. Can't help on the cheap sunglasses, though. All of my shades are prescription bifocals now.....

Go to your optician. They should be able to find some that fit you and if not you can usually choose a frame that you like and they'll order it for you in the correct size. The optician should also be able to adjust them for you, you could do th is yourself but its better that they break them rather than you!

Last week I actually went to get a new set of prescription sunglasses. The most comfortable I've found are the rimless titanium bendy ones. As it's rimless they can just make the glasses wider by making the lenses bigger, this does make it thicker near the edges however so it's a tradeoff. They're also not cheap, together with my high astigmatism which requires the thinnest lenses the total was around $700.

Not that I'm calling you bald or anything. I've just got a lot of hair. If I shaved my head, I'd probably wear a 7.375 or smaller.

Can I ask how you guys measure your head size? I'd be interested just for the sake of telling people exactly how big my huge head is.

You measure your head where the hat's band would rest, then use a chart to find actual hat size. It appears to have at one point been the diameter of the circle in inches that has the same circumference at your head's (that is, your head measurement as above divided by pi), but there seems to be a little play in that these days. I don't know if due to shping and blocking or if the measurements just got sloppy over the years before they were redefined.

Thanks, that makes sense to me. I just made a very crude measurement, and going by your calculations, I think I got just over an 8. Like 8.1.

Hah! I have never met adjustable hat that fits me. I had to have my baseball caps (used when driving with Twingo's roof open) made to order! As for glasses, distance between centers of my pupils is 74mm (and, of course, 'ready to wear' eyewear is out of the question)!

I once worked on instrumentation on a desulphurization pilot plant in a coal-fired power plant. Hard hats were mandatory. I regret not having any photos of myself with the largest hard hat they had. It looked on my huge head like one of those little ritual caps Jews wear (what's the name of it, BTW?).

Far OT, now that I think of it, more or less similar skullcaps are rather common - e.g. those worn by Roman Catholic bishops and cardinals; Kosovar Albanians wear white ones usually made of lace. It would be nice to know stories behind them...

Honestly, I haven't tried to wear a hat of any kind since middle school, so I have absolutely no idea if anything would still fit me.

Don't have a tape measure handy, but improvising with headphones cord and measuring agains longer side of A4 sheet of paper, it would seem barely 8 (64cm). I am disappointed

You guys are measuring where a hat band rests, right? This is definitely not the widest part of the head; it's a little above that.

Actually, I think I know what the problem was for me. My head is so large that the edge of a baseball cap wouldn't come down far enough, so it wouldn't even get to the largest part of my cranium If it had, I'm sure the band would have run out of notches. So I now remember why I don't weat hats like that. They make me look like I'm wearing a beenie with a rim

I was surfing the site Bitt linked earlier for hat size. A Panama hat would be nice to keep the Texas sun off my neck, but they start at $425 and go to $20k!!! What the hell is in a $20k hat??? I think I need to stick to Shepler's Western Wear for the more traditional cowboy hat... $100

On the order form, they don't list that $20,000 price. It ``only'' goes up to $2,500.

It is a good description for hat sizing but why is the English size 1/8" less than the US size is what I wonder... And apparently he'll mail you a head size measuring tape if you request one.

Definitely, Interesting that you post that Panama hat link. I was *just* thinking that I need one (but not $450!) I can find the occasional hat that really fits (like a real size 8 beret I found at a Men's store in Portland), but most of the ones that go "Medium" and "Large" are a cruel joke, even the "large" canvas Kavu hat that I wear all the time and which makes me look like Tweedledum.

I saw a guy wearing these in New Zealand and I was going to bring them up but I had no idea how to describe them... Well, I looked at that guy and made a note to self: No f*cking way! He looked like a bad prop out of Secrets of Roswell. Plus, some of us would probably need to tuck a yarmulke or something underneath to avoid male-pattern strap marks.

Hah, one of my previous roommates had a pair of those. He was kind of a freak (as if you couldn't guess from the shades).

My pair of Oakley Razor Blades (bought in 1989 - my shades last a while too) fit my head just fine. I guess because they are wraparounds, and a bit bendy, the width is irrelevant.
I appear to be about an 8 - I just don't wear hats (except my stretchy Subaru Impreza Drivers Club toorie) because I can never find one that fits.
