I read a thread that said there's a way to control the Empeg's brightness when docked in the car? Where is it? Under the Settings menu, all I saw was Set Time and Set Date. I'm running player 1.0, by the way.

I don't think it is a software controlable dimmer, but instead a wire in the docking station that listens to when the car's lights are on and dims the display. Mine isn't actually installed yet, so I'm not 100% sure.

It is a software controllable dimmer, it won't show up under settings when plugged into the home power supply. Once installed in the car mount, you will see it appear under the settings menu.

Umm... Well, it was installed in my car today. When docked in the car, the dimmer option does NOT appear under settings. I just checked this again to make sure I'm not crazy. Maybe this is related to the problem I mentioned in another post where my Empeg turns on with ignition sense but doesn't turn off?

I believe you should have the ability to change the dimmer as long as the player is powered in the car by the docking connector. Even if the light sense is not plugged in.

Well, no dimmer option in the settings menu when docked in my car... Was my Empeg manufactured in the Twilight Zone? Any Empeg folks have any idea what's going on here?

Well, no dimmer option in the settings menu when docked in my car... Was my Empeg manufactured in the Twilight Zone? Any Empeg folks have any idea what's going on here? You wouldn't happen to own a Mark 1 player, would you? The dimmer settings only exist on the Mark 2. Or possibly, do you have a Mark 2 player, but loaded it with software intended for the Mark 1 player? (Although the latter shouldn't work as far as I know.) What version of the player software is it running? If it's not 1.0, head out to the Empeg site and download that version. ___________ Tony Fabris

It is a software controlled dimmer and it's only available fi the Mk2 is in the docking sled. It's not depending on a connected dashlight cable. It works as soon as the power comes from the docking connector.

It's a Mark II. Actually the problem has been identified, I think... This is related to my Ignition Sense problem in another post. Apparently, my AC adaptor terminal always thinks it's connected to AC power. Hugo and Rob have been very helpful so far in helping me diagnose this problem, but it looks as if I may be sending it off to be fixed. At least their turnaround is very reasonable. I will post here with status, in case anyone else runs into this problem.
