I am in the middle of setting up a new drive for one of my empegs and and having problems with the linux upgclient. I successfully used upgclient to load the builder image which worked fine. Now I am trying to get the regular v2 software onto the player, but upgclient isn't finding the player. I keep getting this...

freebeer# ./upgclient -p /dev/cuaa0 car2-developer-v2.00.upgrade
empeg-car Upgrade client.
empegupgrade: Using upgrade file 'car2-developer-v2.00.upgrade' to device '/dev/cuaa0' (115200 baud)
Checking upgrade file integrity [100%]
Pumping player software
Upgrade file checked [100%]
ERROR: 5 empeg unit not found

Upgrade failed :-(

Upgrade failed with error 0x8004004c

I have tried this a bunch of times with the empeg already plugged in or plugging it in as I run upgclient. I have also tried using the -r flag so upgclient just loops trying to find the player. Anybody have any ideas on what is going on here?

This is under FreeBSD by the way using the linux emulation. I don't have a real linux box handy, but upgclient was working five minutes ago (when I loaded the builder) so I doubt that has anything to do with it.

Worked for me but I had -r as well on the upgclient command line so it kept retrying. I unplugged the power and plugged it back in as well which may have done something. I guess it could be missing the pump prompt?

Ughh, I finally gave up after a couple hundred tries and found a windows box. I feel so dirty

Yeah, doing that bothered me so much I finally broke down (half a year ago) and wrote an ethernet upgrader tool for Linux. MUCH faster, too!

Cheers

Yep, somewhere in there I even tried to use it. Problem is that as far as I can tell the builder image never brings up the ethernet interface and I wasn't up for digging up the required utilities and libraries to assign an IP and all that and then transfer them to the empeg via serial. The next time I need to do a regular update I'll give it a spin though.

I think that everything you need is in the base.tar.gz file here.
