I've been wanting to add a power switch to my Mlord docks for a while, since i leave my backup pretty much always docked, and I finally got a second to do it. Took about half an hour.

Here's the wiring... if you can see it...

Nice mod, but... why? Do you not like stand-by? Or do you update by serial often enough that slipping it out of the dock is too much a pain in the arse? Does the blinky blue light bother you when you're trying to sleep?

Heheh... Well, mostly because i'd just rather not have power going through the empeg for weeks at a time if i'm not even going to be using it. Not that there's much wear and tear going on... but every little bit helps eh. I also wanted it for my dock at work for when i go out to lunch or something... so the led doesn't attract everyone that walks by. Also saves wear and tear on docking for restarts and whatnot, and faster than using the hijack menu.

But most importantly.... why NOT? =]

I put a power switch on my docks for most of the same reasons.

Another important reason for me was that I am running the dock's cooling fan off of the mains power and I wanted to be able to turn off that noise, however slight it is. In retrospect, I should have run the fan off of the amp remote wire.

Hey, pretty cool job, Loren. I like the location you chose for it. Looks very nice.

On the one we use here, I normally just unplug the AC adapter when it's being left unused for a few days. But I like the switch. My main dock here in the office (a completely different design) has a switch AHEAD of the AC Adapter, so that it uses zero power when off (normally an idle AC Adapter still uses a few watts).

Cheers

Thanks Mark. That's just about the only place to put it without having cables get in your way when you want to turn it off. =]
