I am currently brain-storming a project of interfacing the Empeg player directly to a DAC chip, using the I2S signals and thus bypassing the SPIDF output and digital receiver/filter. The DAC used will accept I2S signals (system clock, word select and data) directly. No oversampling will be used. I would like to know if the I2S signals tapped from the I2S pads are at 1x fs (44.1kHz).

Info on non-oversampling DAC can be obtained in the digital forum of the audioasylum or diyaudio website.

You're welcome. Be sure to buffer those I2S signals before sending to your DAC. They won't drive cable without it.

This will be a one-box design. The Empeg player and the DAC will be in the same enclosure. I will keep the signal cables feeding the I2S short.

That's fine, but even 6 inches is too lonb in my experience. Believe me I know, because I sell the I2S boards in the S/PDIF link above. You WILL need a buffer unless you enjoy listening to continuous dropouts. If you need any help with that let me know.
