I had the exact same problem. I never resolved it. I've since had the tuner sitting on a shelf waiting to be installed in my new car.

Question: Is this under a heavy electrical load? Lights, defrosters, AC, heater, etc.

if you're asking me (which i don't think you are =])... no, it was never under any obscene load. And i even replaced my car battery and it still happened. I had it narrowed down to the tuner when my car was stolen and haven't had it reinstalled since then. Should be in my WRX within a month though .

i just read through both of those links you posted loren. i just installed my pcats tuner so it could be that, but i thought you said in one of your post that it happened without the tuner connected? well, when i installed it last night i had to to a quick job putting my car back together, to take a friend home, so my wires are a little messy in there. plus, i have an extra screw from my dash. doh! i'm going to first try to get everything back in there nicely and see if that helps.

Weird that we are both having the same problem in a Civic Si.

Can you confirm (Loren) with 100% certainty that the standby bug has happened to you WITHOUT a tuner present?

Thanks

Yes, it definitely did once, but due to the battery dieing shortly thereafter, i wrote it off to that. But it did happen once. It's in one of those threads. I haven't messed with it since my Si has been sold.

Have you tried disabling all the stalk remote codes in hijack? It's possible that there's a spurious off signal being sent to the empeg....

That was ruled out. It happened with two seperate empegs, one with a virgin software install and my normal one with all the junk on it.

I had a simular problem when i got my tuner the wires for the stalk were reversed and pressing a combination cause the empeg to go it to standby.

I also have a the battery icon come up a lot when the empeg switchs between radio and player, but it does play ok .

today my empeg was at it again, but this time it started displaying the battery icon. after a few top button presses to bring it out of standby mode it lost power. so i pulled it out and restarted. when i restarted, it started up as if the tuner was the last thing i was listening to, which i wasn't.

Sounds EXACTLY like what was happening to me. Changing inputs, random standby's and shutdowns... ya got me man.

Have you disconnected the tuner to rule that out yet?

i believe i fixed it!

while fiddling with the wires to clean up the mess i was holding the stalk connecter and the empeg went into standby mode. so i played around with it by tapping the tip and it produced the same result. i also noticed that even if you wiggled it around it also made the empeg go into standby mode. some electrical tape around the stalk, zipties and more tape to secure it seem to have done the trick.

hopefully this fixed my problem and will fix yours to loren.

weird. So what the hell would cause that? some loose connections on the board or what?

Anyhow... cool. I hope it stays fixed!

That's a FEMALE connector, right? I would suspect faulty wiring connection inside the stalk connector plug... it's shorting out when the wire is moved.

That's why i was wondering... it's a female molex connector isn't it? It would be pretty hard for the pins to short since they are seperated. Me goes to look at the manual to see what the connector is....

The stalk connector is a headphone style plug. It's the tuner <-> empeg connector that is the molex.

ahhh, yes, i just saw that. Hrm... I'll have to check the wiring on mine when i do the reinstall. Sounds like a good candidate.

ISTR that the OFF state of the sony stalk was the one that pretty much shorted the sense to ground, which would figure.

Okay,

Does anyone violently object to having Hijack simply ignore ALL stalk input when the player is supposed to be in standby?

Cheers

not i.

but... and this is me probably not understanding what you are doing... the player doesn't do this when in standby, it goes into standby when it's on and playing....

Well, for that situation just have Hijack remap the "standby" button (whatever that is) to null -- config.ini

The player ignores all stalk input when in standby already - I believe the tuner module is powered down during standby, so it can't receive any stalk input. (This is slightly annoying, as it means I sometimes need to open the stereo cover to wake the player. But it's only slightly annoying, not a big deal.)

Good. So adding the extra bits to hijack won't affect anyone adversely.

I sometimes suspect phoney stalk commands as being the reason for empegs mysteriously coming OUT of standby on their own..

Cheers
