I don't think you bought the karma too soon. The iRiver measures 4 inches in length, so it doesn't come close to matching the size of the karma.

Rio Karma 20GB = 2.7"(l) x 3"(w) x 1.1"(h) = 8.91 cubic inches
iRiver iHP-120 = 4.13"(l) x 2.36"(w) x .75"(h) = 7.31 cubic inches

The iHP-120 is almost 20% smaller than the Karma!

I guess this depends upon whether the "footprint" the or cubic volume is most important to you. For my purposes, I chose length and width, as the more important consideration:

Rio Karma 20GB = 2.7"(l) x 3"(w) = 8.1 square inches
iRiver iHP-120 = 4.13"(l) x 2.36"(w) = 9.74 cubic inches

From this perspective, the Rio Karma is almost 20% smaller.

I really don't care too much about the size as long as it is not too large. The biggest attraction of the iHP-120 for me is the full featured remote. I wish that Rio would commit to making a remote for the Karma.

Its the line in record that I like. I'll be keeping my Minidisc until portable recording reaches these babies - Apple are kind of almost there with their new add on.

Did you look at the specs for the iRiver iHP-120? It's as close to a minidisc featurewise as an MP3 has been able to get. Optical in/out, recording to MP3 or wav, external mic support, really great remote.
