Hehe, that is one of the better e-mails recently.

I used to have a lot of problem with its and it's (and I probably still do when I don't think about it), but the thing that finally cleared it up for me was comparing its to his and hers; all possesive, and none having an apostrophe.

Comparing to his and hers just gives me a headache. I'd rather just think of it as a contraction like "Don't"

I just think of my 5th grade teacher having a huge fit screaming "NEVAH, NEVAH, NEVAH USE THE APOSTROPHE UNLESS IT MEANS 'IT IS'!" in her Brooklyn accent that only came out when she was really mad. She was about 4' 11" and 100 lbs but she scared the hell out of us. Thank you Mrs. Solnick!
