Yes, I know the 12MB are more than enough for the "normal user",
but most of us ain't "normal users".

A few (~32) additional MB won't drive the price up too much, but would make the life of "add-on" developers so much easier.

Just a thought.

It would drive the price way up. Theres no more room for ram on the board, they would have to switch to a two sided board, which would cost a lot of money.

Whoa there, man! It doesn't have to be that drastic. Yes it might require a substantial rework to provide an upgradable memory system, but that's not what he's asking, if I understand correctly. He just wants more base RAM on the Mark III. That could potentially be done with no additional board space whatsoever, by using a higher-density memory chip.

That's exactly what I had in mind.
Any comment from the empeg guys ?
(I didn't open mine and I don't have the schematics, but looking at the Intel Docs it should be easy ...)

We have a lot of 2Mx16 DRAM chips, however, and all DRAM is getting very thin on the ground/hugely expensive (take PC DIMM price, multiply by about 4 for the same memory capacity if you're looking for 3.3v FPM that's IN STOCK).

The next big design revision there may well be more ram - when we move to SDRAM & a CPU which will support it. Not for several thousand more units though. There's no way we'll move to (eg) 32Mb dram or above, it's just pointless for most of our users; the empeg is not a PC.
