After two years of wait - my tuner is finally on the car and my girlfriend are really happy. :-)

It took about 2 afterwork-evenings to get it completed, I made two little mistakes one in the wrong hole, and the 10pin mounting on the wrong side(I shouldnt speak in the phone and solder on the same time... :-)),

And today I got it in the car, it was a little adventure to find a big enough space in the dashboard. But now I know of a pretty good place for it in a Audi A4 ´02. :-)

As noted elsewhere the alpha5 is a little flaky about RDS. Anyone tested if alpha6 is better at the radio-stuff?

A big thanks to pca for a really _great_ kit! - THANKS!

/Fredrik

So where did you put it? I just got an A6, but haven't installed my empeg in yet. I am number 287 so I still have a while to wait.

I put it behind the glove box, it was six screws (four inside and two under it). I found a little space to the left up against the middle console, it will be right beside the airbag-key.
I put a piece of material around it to minimize vibration and some tape to hold it in place (in sweden we call it "silver tape") .

Like duct tape? Although SWMBO once refered to it as duck tape, quite why you'd want to tape a duck down is beyond me. We call it gaffer tape at work.

That would probably be because most of the duct tape sold in Homebase, B&Q etc is called Duck Tape...

Yes, thats the one!

We also call it "gaffa" here in sweden...

Hopefully it will hold the tuner in place one more year - then its time for a new car and a new empeg-install... :-)

Trust me, the car will fall apart before the tape gives way!

Indeed, a single piece of gaffer has been stopping the crack in rear window on my MX5 from leaking for a couple of years now. When I left the car standing at the airport for 3 weeks last year I taped along the tops of both doors so that the holes in the roof didn't leak for 3 weeks solid with no chance for the inside of the car to dry out...

I really must get a new roof !

When I was about 14, I worked for a day at a hunt-club event. They used "Duck" Tape to hold the wings of the ducks to their body. It prevented them from flying away when they were thrown. Made it easier for the hunting dogs to retrieve.

Worst day of my life, almost.

That's pretty fscked up, right there. Surely it would make more sense just to throw a stick for the dog to chase? There's about the same amount of challenge in it.

Originally, it was called duck tape because the cloth is/was duck. I don't know when the term changed, but it might have something to do with not using duck anymore. (Most of the duct tape I've seen has used a really loose cloth. Gaffer's tape, on the other hand, is still tightly woven.) Of course, this all brings up the question of if you'd use duct tape to tape ducts. It's about the worst tape to use for that.

That's pretty fscked up

You have to try and understand the ways of the weekend countryman, where I live, it's part of every weekend. I've had to call the police twice to get them stopped: Once for shooting in woods in the fog; Once for shooting across a bridle path to pheasants at head height, the other side.
Then they have to come in to my local, dressed in too new, unworn tweeds and barbours to show off their proud spoils, which interests none of us greatly!
But I've never come across the taping duck wings, why don't they just go clay pigeon shooting, spare the ducks, spare the dogs a boring job.
Sorry, you touched a nerve, I hope that all the new red badges don't scratch you for having a chip on your shoulder!
