of the running song and playlist ?

I wrote a (very!) small utility to broadcast data from the empeg via ethernet.

Right now it just sends the temperature and the contents of /proc/empeg_state.

How can I find out the FIDs ?
I would like to use my Desktop to show the running title via a video beamer ... great for parties.

I tried to extract the fid from /dev/empeg_state, but as mentioned elsewhere the format will change (whcih is fine for now);
But the real problem is if I open /dev/empeg_state (RO) before I start the player the player will die :(
I could "proxy" the device, but that is more complicated than I want and in case my "statusServer" dies the player will die, too.

Any good ideas ?

Maybe in the next version the fids could be readable via a fifo ??

The player can send the current fid out of the serial port, along with some time information (I wrote a little program that uses this and the CSV output from emplode to display current track name and position).

To turn it on, you need to add

[output]
timecodes=1

into config.ini
Hope that helps... =)

You could use my displayserver...
This way you can also show the running visuals in a webbrowser. I finished the IR-hack in the kernel, so the next release will let you push the buttons in the applet to operate the empeg from your web-browser. I will release the new version in the weekend I think. displayserver can be found at http://fvgestel.dyndns.org/empeg/
The old version only shows the empeg display area; the new one also shows the full fascia of the player with clickable controls.
