I had a local electronics store install my second dock in my truck for me and when I got it back the display was blank. While they have agreeded to pay for the repairs I can not find anyone to fix it.

I have been through the FAQ and checked and tested all items listed under "My display is blank!" and can not find the issue. I am looking for anyone that still works on these units and/or someone that has had simular problems with any ideas on other possible fixes.

Thanks.

Is the unit working otherwise. i.e. Sound coming out?

Possibly display board fuses but unless the unit was dismantled that's pretty unlikely.

Need a bit more info as to what's exactly wrong.

No display could simply be no power...

Reminds me of a faulty meter we received back in service that said "LCD Not Working". When they said not working, what they meant was that somebody had taken to it with a sledge hammer for some reason.

The guys at the Eutronix link at the top of the page do repairs.

Yes. The unit is working fine otherwise. I was fortunate to have it on the all playlist before it happened. I can control it via remote or the unit directly.

I will contact Eutronix as well. Thanks for the info.

A blank display is almost always a broken nipple or crack in the VFD so that it is no longer a vacuum. Examine the VFD carefully - look for any signs of damage and that the nipple is in tact. The slightest crack is enough to reduce the VFD to scrap glass.

Another possibility would be catastrophic failure of the capacitors near the VFD. Check to see if your VFD is on, but just very dim. There is a FAQ article about the capacitors around the VFD, and how they can go, leaving you with something unreadable in daylight.

Also check the connector going from the display board to the main board. If the buttons and knob work normally, though, this problem is highly unlikely.

Lastly, do you see any display at all when you boot?

I have examined the VFD and was unable to find any visible damage, I will check more carefully for the small crack.

I tried the unit in a pitch dark setting also. And the display connection looks good, and as you said unlikely.

No display at all, even during boot.

Thanks for the info. I am going to check out the VFD again.

There's a FAQ for My display is blank. It includes pictures of a broken nipple.

I was just reiterating that there was a picture there, since the broken nipple can be hard to see unless you know exactly what you're looking for.

That is true. Depending on the way the break occurs, the VFD looks very clean without the nipple in place. Unless you know what it is supposed to look like in advance, it is easy to miss.
