The BBC are going to be broadcasting the radio dramatisation of the three remaining Hitchhiker's books: Life, The Universe and Everything; So Long And Thanks For All the Fish; and Mostly Harmless. The first series begins on Radio 4 this September, with a second series following in Spring 2005

Fantastic. Hopefully once they're all done, they'll release them as a boxed CD set. I'd be all over that.

Did you listen to the downloadable preview? Sounds to me like they're doing just fine...

Good to hear, haven't got audio on my PC, I'll have to listen to it later, does anybody know if the Dirk Gently stuff was ever put on the radio?

I don't think so. The first one was made into an audiobook, but it seems to be out of print.

That's a shame, I've been bugging the BBC Natural History unit about repeating Last Chance To See as well (got the book, never heard it on the radio).

I know for an absolute certainty that at least two people do. However, since my copy was more or less permanently borrowed from the original owner, I don't feel I could in good conscience offer it without his permission.

Wonder if they will have got anywhere with their trials of downloading all the last weeks programmes by then? Or whether that covers radio as well as TV. Although, it does look to be time limited...

How easy do you reckon it'd be to get his permission?

Um, sorry about that. I was not paying attention to this thread... It took an email message to gently prod me in this direction... (Edit: <groan> The coffee is kicking in, and I just realized what I typed... Sorry about that...)

Yes, there are at least a few versions floating around on empegs out there.

For the Hitchhiker books, I have all of the books (well, the ones that were completed) as downloadable audiobooks from Audible, converted to MP3. I also have a live version of HHGTTG excepts that Douglas Adams performed before a crowd somewhere. And also a variation from a record (vinyl) production that was made and released in the US.

For both of the Dirk Gently's, there are full versions from Audible converted to MP3 along with a version (sadly it is an "abridged" version) that was released on audio book CD, ripped to MP3.

Why? Is someone looking to provide me free off-site archive and data storage services for these files???
