I'm considering researching the specs on the pioneer IP-Bus connector so pioneer changers/devices.. (i want to add a minidisk deck to my empeg :)

anyone else had experience with the IP-Bus, or other changer control hacking? I'd like to be able to have a software update to the empeg player to swap out "Aux" with "IP-Bus" so all the features work seemlessly.

I'm just having a stab in the dark but I think these other (well educated and helpful) clowns are saying they don't know any details about IP-Bus.
I don't see the problem of adding external devices (CD/MD/DVD/Phono/Tape) to the empeg (and probably niether does the clown troupe!). Especially if that is what you would use when you're not in the car.

Given time, there will be all sorts of adapters for control stick and such but first we have to really wait until empeg/sonic blue gie us an API.

I find minidisk to be very usefull where mp3 is still "not there" it's very inexpensive.. and I have several friends with players/recorders. it's much easier, and less expensive to take my minidisk on airplane trips than it would be to take a compact-flash type player, (besides the $1/min recording costs of compact flash) i can get a dozen minidisks for the price of a 32mb compact flash.. and get 20-30 times more music on it. and disk recorders are still a bit spendy. (i blew all my $ on the empeg)

I figured the IP-Bus thing would be an interesting hack. being able to support a 6 or 12 disk changer, or a minidisk player would be interesting.

I to am interested in supporting the IP-BUS from Pioneer and would welcome any feedback on this.

If you have a Pioneer head unit, I've found that they make a device (CD-RD10) which is an Auxiliary Input Adaptor that allows you to run an Line-In (RCA's) into the IP-BUS. It sells for $30 USD. There is another model that appears to be more of a pass-through for downstream IP-BUS devices.

I'm hoping that the IP-BUS plug end has all pins populated so I can get at the remainder of the controls for the track controls. We shall see.
