Just to see who might be up for a mini-meet. Currently thinking next May could be a good time (Scotland gets a bit warmer then) and it gives plenty of planning/scheduling.

Knew I shouldn't have put in the silly option - too many Slashdot polls do that to you. Okay, who doesn't know where Scotland is?

LOL - we're the attractive bit with mountains and lochs at the north end of Britain. Um...Britain is the small chunk of land north of France. Ummmm...France is that country that argues with the US a lot

Yep, and they call those Lochs, Lochs, and they call Loch Ness, Loch Ness and they call the monster, the Loch Ness monster, And people come from all over the world to check it out, because nobody else has one of them. Nor do they have a Falkirk Wheel.....

Firefox - this will definitely work. There is a large group of us who go every weekend, some climb, some try the Skyride (assault course suspended from the 30 metre high ceiling), some use the gym and some just sit in the 5th floor restaurant/bar and watch.

Mmmm - if he still has his Noble I'd love to see that on the track. My bro would probably be interested in taking his TVR for a spin too (although his empeg is in his Scooby P1)
I'm hunting around to see what is on and available round central Scotland in May that might interest folks. Any further ideas very welcome.

So, on the principle that in May we'll try to get a Scottish mini-meet organised, how about starting alist of names, possible dates and entertainments.
To start, I should be able to manage any weekend in May, and some things that may be of interest:
Ratho Adventure Centre Knockhill Race Track - for track day Falkirk Wheel Edinburgh or Stirling Castles Raceland - for twin engined pro-karting

We would normally head your way, windscreen wipers slapping, at about the 12th May for 10 days, but I'm flexible. 1. spectator only 2. take blood pressure beforehand and alert St.John's Ambulance. 3. Really impressive, love it. 4. Not big on castles. 5. Go Karts are pants, the lightest wins, and I'm 16 stone.

He he - we run a different setup with go-karts (as we always hated getting whupped by 11 year olds) with time penalties for lighter drivers. Generally taken as stop go penalties. Makes things a little fairer. And they are twin engined 60mph karts - quite amusingly zippy!
Paintball and pub - another two great options. Pub will be in there anyway by default - I'll check out barbeque options, but remember this is Scotland.

Right - having some holdups (work is wayyy too busy right now) but I'm trying to get some things organised. Only a couple of dates look like working. If you think you can make it, what weekend would work (select both if they will both be suitable)

Always wanted to see a bit of Scotland, and with both an empeg meet and a chance to see what the pug can do (probably more flike finding my chickenlevel)...
But unfortunately I'm forbidden to drive for at least another 5 months (got the verdict last week... SUCKS!)
I'll do some asking and see if someone is free and also willing to chauffer me though...

Or maybe see how it takes you to get seriously b*ll*cked for speeding.
What's the law like on someone from another european country getting done for a serious driving offence, like exceeding 100MPH or driving without undue care and attention? The sort of stuff that would usually result in a ban of some sort.
The police over here really don't like people driving like tw*ts (from personal experience).

Even on the track? Then what's the point? Maybe a detour on the way to Amersfoort instead... But the issue is probably moot as I'll more than likely won't be allowed(for medical reasons) to drive then either...

If it's merely on the fine level I think it stays 'in-country', but if it's the kind that would mean revocation of license and/or possibility of jail, I think it gets reported back home and you'd probably face the wrath there. No idea how it works with redlight or speed cameras.
Quote: The police over here really don't like people driving like tw*ts (from personal experience).
And rightly so! Activities described above simply doesn't belong on public roads.

Actually, they have started to implement better european co-operation - in this case to our disadvantage. A number of european countries are now implementing a sceme where they will have your local police fine you for an offense in another EU country.

Ouch. Here it varries by state on who talks to who. For the most part, any state will tell your home state you didn't pay thus creating a warrant for arrest. But depending on the state nothing more is reported. The tickets I got in Texas never showed up on my Colorado driving record, thus I also saw no insurance increase. All I had to do was pay the one time fine to the appropriate county that I was pulled over in.

On the track is fine, but the open road is usually far more exciting.
I'd just be careful, the police know all the best roads so usually hang out there because they know people will be driving fast. There are several stretches of road round here like that, every time you drive round there you get a patrol car lurking behind a bush or an officer jumps out brandishing a radar gun instead of catching burglars and muggers, but that's another rant altogether....

Didn't somebody try to get out of their speeding ticket by saying he was scared because he thought somebody was trying to shoot him with the gun?
