Payola is back!

While I'm not at all shocked by this, I have to wonder. In your area, when, if ever, was the radio good? I've always thought NYC to have piss poor radio for a city of this size (we only had more than two or three good stations for a few years in the early 90's, and many of them folded). It was the one thing good about Buffalo (help along by several canadian stations) was the quality of rock radio. Is there somewhere in this country where decent radio still exists?

The only decent radio i've heard is almost always college stations, but then that's usually only for a few hours a day when the specific type of programming you like is on. I dunno, I haven't listened to the radio willingly in many years... I think if I was forced to be without empeg I'd definitely be getting XM, they actually have a few good stations.

I've never liked radio due to the lack of control over what I listen to, even before the empeg. The only station I listen to in my area is WJFK 106.7 (but just for Redskins games on the drive to and from the stadium), and DC101, which plays most of the modern rock nonsense, but then occasionally has grunge weekends that I listen to non-stop.

There used to be two rock stations in my area, but HFS turned into a Latin music station. That's ClearChannel for ya. Oh well, I didn't listen to it much anyway.

When I used to listen to radio, I was most impressed with
http://www.kfog.com/
I always appreciated the maturity and respect they had for their listeners.
They know how to throw a good party, too.

Radio isn't in the line-up right now- no good receiver at home, no good car antenna. When the empeg goes in, I'll have a tuner and a new antenna. Soon I'll be poking around on the airwaves again- hopefully in a few weeks.

I used to love listening to KXRX Seattle when I lived in Victoria in the early '90s...right in time for the whole West coast grunge thing. Unfortunately, the station was bought out and became a Latino talk station! (kinda like that Frasier plot line eh?)

RIP KXRX.

I'll second KFOG. I'm a devoted longtime foghead. They are (IMO) what radio *should* be.
