I've just finished getting a new 80gb drive in my empeg and uploaded some tunes. I plugged it into my amplifier at home via the RCA outs on the back of the empeg, sounds and works beautifully.

This morning I slid it into my sled in the car, and got no sound. I tried just about everything. When I turn the volume to +8 overdrive, and the volume up in the car, I can hear it quaintly (albiet distorted as hell).

To eliminate the sled or the connection to my stereo in the car, I tried my backup empeg, and it worked fine. I opened up my empeg (no audio) and made sure all the wires were seated, and they were.

Any ideas? I'd post my boot log but there were no errors whatsoever, nor anything out of the ordinary, considering that it plays whilst connected to my home amplifier.

Running 2.0 release, with the newest hijack.

I looked through the FAQ, but that thing's search function isn't very concise.

You might want to check out the wires leading to the docking loom inside the player. Assuming it worked before the disk upgrade, I am wondering if the drive tray could be cutting / grounding the signal wires leading to the loom.

Also, I assume there is no sign of cell phone mute or and other silencing option being set on the player.

Correct Paul, no mute enabled.

Even if it were the wires, you think sound would at least come from one speaker? I looked at the wires and they appeared to be alright, even wiggled them. I do still get the loud pop when I slide in the empeg and remove it, like I always have (when everything is powered on).

Hmm, I'll take a stab at the obvious so the smarter people around here can try the more esoteric stuff:

Is it hooked up via aux? Is the volume setting on the 2nd empeg normalized at 0 db and locked if so? Any weird equalizer settings? If you use Hijack to force AC mode while in the car does the problem still exist?

That's it, I think I'm out of obvious stuff...

Question: do you have one of Mark's docks? I believe the audio feed is through the docking connector. It would be a good test to see if it is the connector. Also, you might want to use hijack to try and force AC or DC mode, see if that changes anything.

I've tired force AC mode, no luck..

I do not have marks dock. I have another sled in a box, i'll have to try that and connect my home amp through those cables instead.

Fixed it... if anyone else has this problem, check the small red 5v jumper nearest to the display connector. Mine was bad.

FAQ'able?? :-D
