I got a Shuttle ST20G5 a while ago everything was working fine then I tried to flash the BIOS.

After the flash it booted part way then went dead.

I thought I just got a bad flash so I ordered a pre flashed bios from shuttle that didn't solve the problem.

When the machine is powered on the main fan just comes on full blast with no video out or beeps.

I have tried the ram, psu, another video card with the same result.

I am guessing it's either the MB or the CPU so I am trying to decide which to RMA first.

So does anyone have a guess on which it is more likely to be ?

Does the new flash you have installed (or the one you updated to) support the CPU you have installed?

I ran into similar symptoms last week when I bought and installed a new Celeron D into my Shuttle SS51G. Didn't work at all. Turns out the Shuttle doesn't support Celeron D processors. So I swapped the processor with the one in my media system - 2.66GHz P4 for 2.66GHz Celeron D. Now I have two usable systems.

Supposedly it does. It was working before I flashed it and I can't believe they would remove support for CPUs. I wish I had another athlon64 system laying around so I could try swapping the CPU.

The new BIOS may be choking on something left in the NVRAM by the old BIOS. See if there's a way to erase the NVRAM -- usually, this is as simple as removing the clock battery or moving a jumper. Once the BIOS determines the NVRAM checksum is incorrect, it should set it back to factory defaults.

I tried doing that by using the nvram reset button and removing the battery overnight.
