Do we really want the whole FAQ moved over there? I think thats a question for Tony to answer, since it's his baby.
I think the Wiki would do well for the technical side of things, and also hijack documentation. The FAQ as it is works decently.

I just figured it'd probably stay more current if it was in a place more people could contribute to. Maybe I'm wrong.

I think this is a great idea, but a few questions:
What's the backup situation like on empegwiki.org? Is that a name you registered and own and are paying hosting for? Just want to make sure before devoting some time towards this. Colocated, I'm guessing? Bandwidth caps or any other surprises? Tom and empegbbs.com have been top notch, he has definately been on top of things the whole time I've been around.
If empegwiki.org gets populated with all the content from riocar.org and stays up to date with volunteer contributors, I don't see a big need for the current riocar.org site, and it could be converted over to the wiki software easily, I'd guess. Why not just run the wiki software on the riocar.org site instead? Or, if Tom doesn't want to bother maintaining both the BBS and the riocar.org site, move the FAQ (if this is what Tony wishes) and all content off of riocar.org and just have two places - empegbbs.com and empegwiki.org. I would only support this though if the site is more or less permanant and backed up frequently.
Let's see what Tony has to say about this, also.

ricin - thanks for setting this wiki up. Could you make the database dump file available so that, say, Drakino, can set up a nightly fetch?
If we wanted to go a stage further, it would be nice to have dupli.empegwiki.org point to 66.219.41.221 (the IP for empegbbs) and set up a read-only mirror of the wiki.

riocar.org has many different types of content on it including a news feature and a photo gallery. I actually think that installing a FAQ engine (such as phpFAQ) would be a better way to go than either leaving the FAQ as it is or moving it to a wiki.
Wikis are great for collecting information and creating guides - less so for many of the other things that are currently on riocar.org.
However, I agree with the sentiments about multiple domains. Perhaps longer-term we can look to create faqs.riocar.org, wiki.riocar.org and forum.riocar.org. It would be nice to have a single theme across the three sites too - but this all depends on whether people feel like putting the time in to do this.

Sorry...being overly zealous, I moved a few FAQ items over. If Tony doesn't want them there, I'll happily remove them again.
Note: I didn't make any corrections, but I noticed several things that could be corrected...it may not be a bad idea to have it be more open.

Hmm, yeah. There are an awful lot of existing links to the FAQ where it stands now.
Maybe just move the Hijack part. It's the only thing that changes all that frequently anyway.

Existing links alone are reason enough to leave FAQ where it is. Besides, I am quite attached to its long evolving, lovingly developed present form; I can only imagine how much Tony is.
I have two suggestions:
- Let's experiment with documenting HiJack more fully, since it is by its very essence a moving target
- Perhaprs we could try to construct a comprehensive user manual (as opposed to FAQ). since it is more or less just a matter or organization and presentation rather than content, we could use lots of content from the FAQ (with Tony's permission, of course)

empegwiki would be ideal for documenting all existing empeg software (and hardware). I should have done this when I said I would, but it's daunting for one person. The "3rd Party Software List" is proof of how distributed editing can make it happen.

Is there still an issue with hosting the Hijack stuff at Sourceforge? Whatever became of that?
On that note- should the new wiki host the Hijack software or just documentation?

Okay, I've copied-and-pasted the Hijack FAQ from riocar.org to the Wiki article Hijack Documentation. I've done a little cleaning up and Wikifying, but it needs a lot more, not to mention some serious updating. Have at it, folks.

Can you upload a file to the wiki that is not an image?
Tried putting this up, but didn't make it. Anyway, this is a Flash format rendering of the Empeg facia and the Empeg logo that I used to make my 2nd entry. This could also be useful to others who want to use the "empeg" image.

I don't know if you can upload a Flash or not, but it doesn't do anything for me. It just continually says "Movie not loaded" in the Flash Player context menu.

Right, it's not a movie, just a rendering in Flash. You'd have to have a Flash editor (not player) to edit and use the file. I use Flash to draw quick renderings because it has great drawing tools that I like and are easy to use.

".swf" is not a recommended image file format.

Movies? .avi .mpg .mpeg .mov
Zip would be the only other one I can think of. .zip .tar .gz .bz2
If the file extension is not listed here you can always zip it. Zip it good.

Is it possible to fix the rss/atom feeds for the special pages? I would like to subscribe to the New Pages feed, but the rss and atom links are borked. I think it is because there are a few newlines before the <? xml ?> tag is output.

Is it time to:
1. Vote on a logo and put it in place on the wiki
2. Add a link to the top of the BBS for the EmpegWiki site (maybe replace jEmplode and emphatic and instead link those from the main page of the Wiki)
3. Add a post to the riocar.org site to the EmpegWiki site
4. Un-sticky the parts thread and the software thread from the General forum, and sticky an announcment for the Wiki instead (reducing the sticky posts from 3 to 2)
