I just wanted to thank again everyone who made today's event possible... jbauer for setting it up, the generous folks from Rio/SonicBlue for donating all manner of stuff from shirts to hardware, everyone from Empeg/UK who made it across the pond, also to the staff at Boulevard (except that having both the main bathrooms down was a bit of an annoyance )... So when are we doing this again? D

Damn, he beat me by half an hour! hehe. But, i second that. Thanks so much for coming to the empeg/Rio staff and for the shirts (Great surprise!) and hats etc. It was great to finally meet everyone and connect faces with names (which i'm sure i'll soon forget.) We should do it again soon! Off to play with my new Rio!!

I'd also like to thank everyone for turning out and making this a great meet. Special thanks are due to Jon Bauer for taking the plunge and organising the event.

Stay tuned to the Rio Car website. We'll be getting info and images posted there soon. Given the quantity of attendees (52 last I heard) and the number of digital cameras flashing about there will probably be other sites with images too. Spoilers include: Introductions, sound/show off, lunch, prizes, the infamous "How well do you know empeg?" quiz, question & answer time.

Thanks again to everyone who showed up (and especially to Jon Bauer) because you are the ones who made this possible!

I'd like to keep in touch with those of you I met (and those I didn't get a chance to talk to) and would really appreciate it if you could drop me a line ([email protected]) and share your thoughts for the future. What works for you and what doesn't? I'm working on gleaning what I can from here, but as you know there is quite a bit of information to work through.

Best regards,
Tim

Awwwwwwww! T-shirts? I would have made the 3000 mile journey if I had known there were free T-shirts involved!

And hats?!?!? AARGH we need an East Coast meet.

Definately, I second that also (original aren't I? :). That was a lot better than I thought it would be, and a LOT of fun. Great turn out, nice to see what's coming in 1.1 and free stuff is always good. Thanks again from me to everyone that was there, and to Rio/Empeg! Can't wait to get the Rio in the mail.

Tim,

you may also want to open this up to others, who couldn't make it (like me!) due to geographical restrictions.

I'm sure that there are people in Europe who would love to get input into this.

Cheers,

Paul.

Here's the freebie rundown that I remember (and this is pretty cruel to those folks who couldn't make it :-):

SonicBlue Polo shirts
SonicBlue Tshirts (I didn't see one of these)
Empeg "first USA owners meet" Tshirts (also has "RioCar" on it)
Rio baseball caps (very nice quality)
a large bag of Rob's knobs

Rio600's for the SQ/IQ tests contest winners (of which there were 5 (3way tie, 2way tie))
A Nike player for the quiz winner (of which there was one, 16pts to 15pts)

Yeah, that tree is pretty amazingly huge. Just did a Yahoo search on "Methuselah Skyline" and it came up with a lot of interesting stuff. Try it!

Absolutely! I would welcome input from anyone and everyone on their thoughts for the future and directions for the product line. While this forum is a nice place to capture it, email would probably work the best--less chance of me (publicly) committing to the impossible that way :-)

Spoilers include: Introductions, sound/show off, lunch, prizes, the infamous "How well do you know empeg?" quiz, question & answer time.

The sound/show off part was really nice. Being able to see the empeg in so many cars, plus seeing how everyone did on their stereo system in general. One day when I don't have to worry about way too high insurance, I really want to find my player a nice home like so many others have.

Lunch probably would have been better had I been hungry. Ever since last Thursday I have been feeling like crap.

The prizes were definitly nice. And I found it really cool that even with ties on the sound and install quality contests, all the winners are getting the same Rio 600.

The quiz was entertaining. Suprisingly enough, Tony didn't win. He had a total of 15 points, while someone else ended up with 16. I was suprisied with my total of 13, as some of those questions were rather odd.

QnA was nice for seeing 1.1, and questions on whats beyond. 1.1 simply looks awesome. It seems that it's actually adding more features then the beta5c-1.02 run. Emplode is completly rewritten, and has some very nice functions to work with the music collection now. And 1.1 will definitly make the new remote something to own, with all it's press and hold functions. As long as the power off works correctly .

Another inside meet joke. I just can't help but tell it to everybody else.

You can turn the player off by holding a button on the new remote. It works, after a fashion. The player stays off while you are holding the button down but comes right back on when you release it. This bug was filed under "amusing", apparently.

The meet was great. Thank you so much John for putting it all together.

Thanks Rob, Hugo & Claire for flying over.

Thanks everybody who turned up, it was great to meet you all (or most of you anyway).

I'm surprised nobody mentionned the free tuner modules that were given away .

I'm already planning on organizing the event later on in the year when it gets warmer and there aren't 160+ car pileups on I-95 and whatnot.

I kind of kicked myself for losing that one. One of the questions was "Name the three visuals which are named after UK rock formations" or something like that. I named the other two, but drew a blank on "Grampian". And I also didn't know the version number of the first-release player software.

Thanks, everyone, for such a fun meet!

I'm posting this a few days late, as I've only just returned from my trip out to the Bay area (in addition to the Empeg meet, I was at Consonance this weekend).

I have only one regret about the whole thing. As some of the attendees began leaving the meet, I went outside to my car to demo Richard's voladj software to a couple of people. Since it was a rainy day, the windows of my car fogged up, and we couldn't see outside. We also hopped into a neighboring car (was that you, Calvin?) to hear a demo of some free-air subs, and his windows were fogged too.

When we were done, I went back inside and everyone was already gone. We hadn't seen everyone leaving because of the fogged windows.

So my regret is that I didn't get a chance to say goodbye, or to personally thank Jon, Hugo, Rob, or anyone else. I really didn't know the party was going to break up that quickly. I expected folks would be hanging around a lot longer.

So... sorry if I didn't say goodbye.

Otherwise, it was a fantastic day. It was fun meeting everyone face to face for the first time (and in a few cases, the second time). There were many folks there who I wished I could have spent more time talking to. Everyone was very friendly, and overall it seemed more like a huge family reunion than an owner's meet.

There were some really amazing installs, too. Loren's Playstation install was a sight to behold. I played a little bit of Starfighter on it, that was rather cool. Of course, then there was the moment where Loren accidentally hit his remote starter button while the car was in gear. Someone remarked: "Note to self: Don't stand in front of Loren's car..."

The cars themselves were neat, too. We got to see the S2000 with the apple airport on the parcel shelf. BMWs, Porsches, Mercedes, etc., were certainly not in short supply. But I have to say, the coolest car I saw by far was... THE PIMPMOBILE! Enough said.

For those who were wondering how the weather turned out, it was really nice for the first part of the meet. There was no rain during the outdoor portions of the meet. Then we moved inside for food, quiz, Q&A, etc., and the weather was very polite about it and waited until we were all inside before it started raining. Hope no one left their roof open!

The sound quality of all the systems there was fantastic. I was very impressed by how everyone had great installations and sound.

Thanks again, everyone! Let's do it again next year!

(Jon: Same weekend next year would be great, too-- I really liked combining my Con trip and the Empeg meet. My two favorite hobbies taking up a whole weekend is my idea of Heaven on Earth.)

Dammit, i was hoping everyone had forgotten that...hahah. I felt like such an ass you have no idea. Note to self...kick Scott's ass for not telling me he'd hooked up remote start...always pass the blame! It could have been much worse i guess. =]

Who was it the was next to me with the Infinity that won one of the SQ spots? His system was unbelievable...i'm still in awe. (sorry for not remembering your name!) Kelly (my girlfriend) was standing outside next to my car and even she commented on his sound quality, and she normally isn't one for noticing that stuff.

and the Pimpmobile was damn sweet....hahah.

I kind of kicked myself for losing that one. One of the questions was "Name the three visuals which are named after UK rock formations".

You guys don't know how much fun it is to have english as your second language.

I spent the whole quizz wondering what british rock bands had their names used for visuals...

When we were done, I went back inside and everyone was already gone. We hadn't seen everyone leaving because of the fogged windows.

We wondered why there were still some cars in the lot when we left!

I guess the subs worked pretty well, to block out the sound of 20 cars leaving

The Infiniti guy is Ernest.

I made the remark "mental note: avoid the front of loren's car."

*sigh* I wish I could have entered my car in for competition. I demoed some really bumping bass for Ernest after everyone, including Tony, has left. :-)

Don't feel bad about remote starting the car. I felt bad for your car! I hate low curbs...

I just got back home yesterday and I'm trying to catch up on everthing. I just wanted to say the meet was great and I'm glad I made the long trip to be there. It was nice meeting the other empeg owners. I know I didn't meet everyone but I was a good time. And just so every one knows I'm the one who beat Tony on the quiz(sorry about that) not really :). I'll try and post some pictures later but all of mine didn't come out good. And greetings go out to Rob, Hugo, and Claire of which I was the only one who showed up for the Pre meet on Friday. And last thanks to every one from empeg, rio, sonicblue and jbauer.

Heh, gotta love that link picture on the front page. Wonder whose license plate that is?

Clicking on Tony's plate give me a blank window that doesn't even redraw if you obscure and uncover it.
Any chance of emailing them to me, or posting them with less quirky web tech?

Cheers,
- Pimp Daddy Sean

Prolly using an old browser, or you have Java or Javascript disabled, or you're going through a firewall which blocks that sort of thing. Any other browsing options available to you?

Worth it, since there's some pics of the Pimpmobile there.

Pimp Daddy --

Yep, you have a 1970s browser or something. If you click on the Europe image above Tony's license plate at www.scoopman.com, it will lead you to another page. Click on the EMPEG license plate on that one and it will send you to all the pics without use of any Java.

Great seeing you again -- you have a much better memory than do I for names and faces (although I don't think you were wearing as much polyester the first time we met!)

Best,
Andy.
