DVD Cataloging program?

I am contemplating selling off my DVD's. I would like to have a listing of them, but as I have over 200 DVD's it would be a pain in the bottom to type them all in. Does anyone know of a good cataloging program? One that would perhaps read the dvd and enter it in? Or better yet, one that you could just enter in the isbn and have it fill out the info for you? Yeah, I'm lazy...

I love DVD Profiler. I highly recommend it! The reason I went for it was that I could export the database to XML to use for an on-line collection list. Of course they'll host a copy of your database anyways so you don't need to export it. The beta version will display thumbnails of the DVD covers, but is only available if you register (Only $30).

I seccond DVD Profiler. I've used it for several years and am quite happy with it. The program is free, but then you'll get a banner in the right hand upper corner and low-res cover scans. With the premium registration ($30), you get rid of the banner, get high-res cover scans and access to the latest beta.

Lazy is buying a barcode scanner so you don't even have to type the ISBN....

Try a bluetooth barcode scanner so you don't even have to have your computer and DVDs in the same room.  Laziness is the grandmother of invention. Bruno

If you've got a Mac, try Monster Library - http://www.delicious-monster.comNo need for a barcode scanner, just hold the barcode up in view of your integrated iSight camera and it reads it that way. Amazingly cool, and also deals with tracking items you've lent to friends... It also supports those natty bluetooth barcode scanners. Hugo

Active Surplus in Toronto still had a box of them when I was last there a week or two ago. I imagine they might accept a telephone order and mail one out if necessary, for a small fee.

And if you're on a PC and would like a program that directly rips off the wonderful Delicious application, Media Man was recommended to me on this board, and I have subsequently bought it and have been scanning stuff in ever since. I'm just using my camcorder through firewire that I'd been using to backup old home movies. It works very well, you just need a good light level.

Yeah, it's a pretty shameless rip, but I was really wanting to use Delicious, and was quite happy when someone on the forum recommended the program. There isn't really much need to use it (unless you loan out a lot of your media), but it's fun to see it all laid out like that.

I would hope that they managed to rip it off properly. So many rips of OS X programs never quite make the jump smoothly. While they might get the interface to be the same, the actual niceness of working with it usually goes down the drain compared to the OS X program. All the expose knockoffs were proof of that. None of them worked exactly like the OS X function works, they just looked the same.

I've used Movie Collector for quite a while and it works as expected. It's not much of a looker and is definitely not as polished as MediaMan, but it has some extra features that I wish MediaMan possessed. One of those wish list features that I wish MediaMan would implement would be an option to create a "Sort by" title. That way, movies like X-Men would be displayed before X2: X-Men United, since I could alter the Sort By title to override the default alphabetical order.

Ok, I just found some CueCats at the local "Parts Recycler' place, and was wondering where I can find the hack that is needed or driver or whatever. I've googled it, but am now total confused! Anyone know?

If you are using DVD Profiler it has a bar code scanner plugin to scan the DVD. When you use the plugin it auto does the xor to the correct value. I don't think any drivers are needed. My roommate bought a laser barcode scanner and I use it.

Well, I did the mod, and it still doesn't scan the barcode in...sucks...I bought one that is already moded on ebay. I'll see how that one works.

I got the CueCat working, and it, with DVD Profiler let me catalog about 50 DVD's in under 5 minutes!!!
Now, I just need to find a good program for cataloging my book collection! (Hint, hint!!!)
Guess there is 'life after death' for these things! And the hardware hack is super easy!
Again, thanks to all who contributed to my education in this matter. This board has the best (and smartest) people around!

The mediaman one Dignan linked to lets you do games, movies, cds, and books or anything really you can name the categories whatever you want.

Does anyone have a 'key' for MediaMan that they no longer need or use? If so, I would purchase it from them. If that is ok to do. I don't need support resources or anything. Just a copy that doesn't expire. Thought I'd ask before sending them a M.O, as they don't take PayPal.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I just got a CueCat to replace the functional-yet-ridiculous camera rig I had going. It worked really well, but it was just too cumbersome to be useful. The CueCat is great because that's all you need. I no longer have to get out my camcorder, set up the tripod in front of a bright light, and get everything working just perfectly. Now I can just swipe the CueCat on the barcode and I'm done!
I have one problem, though: my CueCat is a heavy sleeper. I mean, I know cats sleep a lot, but this is ridiculous! After I plug in the device, it takes about 10 seconds for Windows to recognize it and finish loading it. Then I have a solid red light out of the front of the CueCat and everything is fine! However, if I stop scanning for about a minute, the CueCat goes to sleep and the LED only blinks steadily. The problem is that nothing can wake it. The manual basically says to point it at something or cover the front with your finger. Neither works. Other pages say that basically the CueCat will wake up when it recognizes its own blinking, so if I point it at a reflective surface or a white piece of paper, it should wake. But it doesn't! The only thing I can do is to remove the CueCat and plug it in again.
Any ideas?

Do you have a USB version? I only had the PS/2 ones and they never went to "sleep." Maybe try finding a PS/2 one?

Yeah, I have the USB version. Unfortunately I'm using it on a laptop with no PS/2 ports...
