The unit could be opened much like a CD-Drive using the small, long button that dominates the front plate. Not servo driven though - pull out, like laptop drives. One could insert a cd this way or have a closer look at the guts of this baby.
A standard 19" Monitor was connected, and showed a regular W2K screen at what seemed like a 1024x768 resolution. Sadayoshi Yoshida (I think), who demo'ed the unit to me said they yet have to find a suitable in-car display. Something like a 6.4" TFT i would guess.
He too let the MX9lbti connect to the Internet via some cell phone utilizing blue tooth... and had the unit dial a number on the phone.
However, for mp3 playback he used a copy of winamp operating it with one of those handheld trackballs. Not really something to fiddle around with while driving.

Seemed like this is a raw prototype with no comsumer-orientated software developed, just to see how well the technology works under these circumstances.

It has been displayed at the Cebit in Hannover. At the Kennwood Booth.
The image actually really is a scan from a page featuring the MX91lbti and another bluetooth enabled stereo. Both where at the Cebit.

Intel is releasing very low power PIII 500 chips here soon for many uses, including ultra-dense servers where 300 of these could be packed into a 42U rack. Right now, dual processor 1U systems have that up to 82. So maybe it's a similar PIII they plan on using. (Transmeta definitly kicked Intel into realising their current mobile solutions could be made better)

Transmeta is currently working with Microsoft apparently on the Tablet PC. Sony is using the chips in a few things, other companies are still looking into the chip. One is releasing a notebook with a Windows/Linux switch on the side that controls what OS it boots into.

I just can't wait for their non-mobile processors that can emulate almost any processor out there. I'd love a desktop that can switch from running Win2000, to Mac OS X, to Solaris 8, all on their native platforms. They are taking about the jump to 256 bit soon, and that will allow the Intel emulator they have now to throw 5 instructions through the chip per clock cycle. (8 in theory, but 5 in practice).

Yes, but a Pentium's "low power" is still multiple watts per CPU, flat out. Fine in a 19" rack - have you seen the fan trays on full racks? ;)

And for one thing, WINDOWS 2000 ? Talk about the all time 'lets burn resources fast'-os ...

Still, platform like that would run *nix nicely :)

Acorn (original designers of the ARM CPU) used to sell an ARM platform called RiscPC. The case was quite cute - built on slices which clipped together, allowing you to configure any number of drive bays and expansions slots you wanted.

One Acorn bod built a Pizza Oven slice - a standard looking RiscPC slice until you opened the flap at the front and looked inside. It was lined top and bottom with Pentium processors, and some clever lighting made it look like they were glowing red - ready to cook some pizza.

I thought it was funny anyway.
