... for filling out the RIO/empeg questionnaire, which you should be receiving e-mail about shortly. :)
I'm not posting the link here as I don't know if they want every joe blow filling out the questionnaire and getting free goods. 8)
Hurry though. It's while supplies last!

The questionnaire is intended only for owners of car players - the emails are still going out so if you haven't received one yet, don't worry. It will probably take a few more hours before the entire mail queue has cleared.
If you do own a car player but do not receive an email about the questionnaire (perhaps because your address has changed, or because you purchased it second hand) then email your player serial number to [email protected] and they will be pleased to direct you to the appropriate URL.

In all honesty... along with Slashdot and wired news, this website is one of my most frequented spots.
Of course thats a direct reflection of this awesome community.

Yup, that's what I put, too. How 'bout an informal poll: Top 3 websites?
Mine:
1) empeg.comms.net !
2) slashdot.org
3) google.com (I know it just a search engine, but I go there A LOT)

I actually put:
www.cnn.com
www.excite.com <--get all my mail there
www.auto.com <--I'm a car guy and I work for "one of the big three" in detroit...
but, in the "comments" box, I put: (or something similar, it was a few hours ago)
"http://empeg.comms.net is the most important tool you have for reaching potential customers. Because of its valuable, quality information, I had enough confidence in the product and company (empeg) to spend so much money."
So what did everyone pick? I got a free blue case with my player, but I felt that a black one would be less "conspicuous" (sp?). I don't have much need for another t-shirt, but I figured a new case costs more than a t-shirt anyway (and they won't have much use for anything with an empeg logo on it anyway).
What did YOU pick?

I have to say, even though I listed this BBS as my most frequented web site, I'm starting to thing that was a bad idea.
Think about the purpose of the survey. It's a marketing survey. They want to know how to "get the word out" about Empeg. By asking which web sites we visit, they're asking which web sites they should be buying banner ads on.
Of course, empeg.comms.net is (a) already an ad for the player in and of itself, (b) doesn't have advertising on it, and (c) even if it did, the ads would be preaching to the choir.
Maybe we should have listed our top 3 visited sites besides empeg.comms.net? ___________

On the other hand, it will reinforce the importance of this BBS, which is also a good thing.
Then again, maybe Paul should sell banner ads

Ill relocate to CA.
Heh, Rio is in Washington state, and Empeg is in England. So sure, relocating to CA is a good idea.
I tell ya, if it weren't for the UK taxes (and the fact that I live in negative-equity land and I've got a family), I'd consider working for Empeg.

Eh... The marketing folks who made the survey should have specified. They asked for top visited sites, they got my top visited sites. If they said non-Empeg related, they'd get those... Make those damn marketing types earn their money! tehehehehe.

I'd like to warn some folks out there who are on empeg's list with a hotmail account. My inbox protector placed the Rio notice in my bulk mail folder. Don't empty it automatically like I usually do!
A couple thoughts on the survey:
When it asked me how much of the time that I had specified was "spent specifically searching for, or downloading digital music", I didn't like the choices. I said 11-15 which means even if I picked 25%, that means I'm spending from 3 to 4 hours downloading music! I certainly don't do that, but "none" doesn't work either. I spend probably 1 hour at most, and it sure doesn't take me all that time to find the music .
Anyway, here's my top sites:
www.allmusic.com - this is my homepage. I've been reading through this thing for something like 4 years, and I still find great info!
www.led-zeppelin.org - what can I say? they're the best band ever, and this is the best site I found for them. it even has bass/guitar tabs for every studio song!
www.suntimes.com/ebert - hey, I like reading movie reviews! even though I don't always agree with them, and certainly never guide myself by them, let's face it, Ebert knows more about movies than any of us, that's for sure.

TeeMcBee: I manage a mailing list for www.MotorCityImprov.com. The "To:" field "all-@---" is not a real email address. It is not like one of those mailing lists that were popular a while back where any subscriber could send notes to the whole mailing list. Instead, the "To:" is just a name of a list. Only someone with access to that list can send an email to it. If you did write to the "To:" address, chances are that it would either get bounced back to you as an invalid email address or more likely get forwarded to someone within Rio. (For example, I have many aliases set up @motorcityimprov.com including a wildcard address *@motorcityimprov.com - So if someone misspells an address, it will get forwarded to me.)

Yeah, my site only gets about 150 hits a day, so getting a random email here and there isn't too bad. That would be a HUGE headache for a site the size of Rio though!

Erm, no, the point was that [email protected] is an alias for our entire clientbase. If you were able to send email to it this would be a bad thing.
One person did try - a famous online rights activist wasn't too happy with the commercial nature of the survey or the fact that it was required to enter an email address. He should know that the best place to reach a wide audience of empeg owners and start a flame war is right here :-)

I guess I am just bad at explaining what I meant...
What I meant was that I get fewer hits to my site and there are fewer people on the mailing list (about 100), so I have WAY fewer people trying weird stuff like that.
But, if you were able to read his comments, was the email bounced back to him AND sent to an inbox with you?

Since Empeg is no more what about offering empeg T-shirts for original empeg owners, since there will obviously not be anymore empeg special events (wish I could have made the one out west). I would have picked the T-shirt instead of the bag if I knew it would have been an empeg shirt but figured it would be a Rio T.

You can email me and I'll get another sent. Although there are still a few T-Shirts waiting to go out, all carry cases were sent.

Yeah, those were great! We usually knew all the news from the BBS but there was always something else and it was a nice way of keeping in touch with the official news releases.
Rob, would it be possible for sonicblue to continue this newsletter broadcast?

The newsletter was most relevent before the product started shipping, and then through the early beta software releases and Mk.2 release. I'm not sure what is newsletter-worthy these days, and the mailing list is now very out of date.
