excellent insulation is required

....and also poor resistance to mechanical wear, as some aircraft manufacturers found when they insulated wiring looms with it (according to Wikipedia).

I noticed yesterday that one of my Dell 2001FP's at work had a horizontal stain on the face. About 4" wide and 1/4" tall. Sharp edged on top and fading as it falls.

Won't come clean. I kept racking my brain, how could it happen, when I noticed a pad of post-its laying on the table. Exact match!

There is no residue that I can feel, or that removes with any benign cleaners. Rats.

Nope. It seems to have migrated into the surface.

I was under the impression that the front surface of an LCD was a thin (sub mm thk) piece of glass.

Antireflective coatings are the last layer and thats whats probably been damaged.

To a certain extent It could be baked on. The surface is warm to the touch. More so at the top of the screen than the bottom.

You could try sticky-label remover which I think is based on citrus oil.

It's remarkable what you can get off with that stuff.
