Once I've installed the builder kernel and get as far as 'pump not found' and switch of , try new HD - do I need to do 'install builder' again or do I just switch on and look at it with Hypert?

Also, the drive(s) arn't spinning up -is there a header wiring diag anywhere so I can check connections

Cheers

Huh. I think there are several implicit questions there.

"Pump not found" is an error message. When did you get this error?

Your hard drive not spinning up may have to do with that error message.

Once you've installed the builder image, it remains active until you install another image. However, I'm not sure that you've successfully done that.

Run thru the empeg upgrade succesfully (i think!)
Lots of erasing this and flashing that and eventually 'pumping partition' which takes a long time and then 'pump not found'

Hmm, thats interesting...
On my working MK2 the two pins nearest the 'red' end of the ide cable are 5V and Ov respectively - on the duff one they are both ov

Ignore the above, red herring - that signal depends on which kernel intalled.]

However, next pin along only at 3.6v - this can't be right?

First, which disk builder are you trying to use, the one on the empeg site is bad and you should use Mark's big disk builder from here and that should solve your problem.

No, its definitly a hardware problem, I've got a working MK2 which I can format disks one, upgrade etc so I know my disks, ide cables and software are all good
