Does anyone know the actuall size of the unit? Crutchfield uses letters to determine standard sizes. Anyone know what they are for this unit?

Thanks,
Matthew

From empeg's page, the sleeve (the part that is actually mounted in the car, the unit itself is removable for downloading data to it) is 2" (50mm) high x 7.2" (183mm) wide x 6.8" (173mm) deep. According to them, this is the "standard" European DIN size. I am not sure yet how this compares to standard sizes, but my guess is that it is more similar to (if not exactly the same as) standard OEM Japanese and some American head units. If that is the case, Crutchfield even sells adapters for the larger dash openings in some Ford, GM, and Chrylser vehicles. Good luck.

Thanks, I must have missed that :) I am putting this in a 99 Honda Passport, hope it fits :) It might be 3 years though as I am something like 8396. :)

Where did you get those sizes? On empeg's site on the "tech" link it says:

Physical (maximum)

Docking unit 2 inches (50mm) high
7.2 inches (183mm) wide
6.8 inches (173mm) deep

Head unit 2.2 inches (55mm) high
7.3 inches (186mm) wide
6.0 inches (152mm) deep

I'd assume the head unit, the bigger one, is what you should quote as the size. The docking unit goes into the head unit, no?

err, oops, I stand corrected. I assumed that the docking unit was the sleeve, and that the head unit was the actual player. Methinks I should have checked the specs a bit more carefully.

The docking unit must be the sleeve. Look at the depths, the head unit is shorter than the docking unit. The head unit is most likely wider and higher only at the face, and the body fits into the docking unit.

I would wait and see if anyone from Empeg can clear up the situation because the specs that people have been quoting on here and the terms by which they are described do not match...

The 'head unit' is most commonly used the refer to the actual music playing part of the system,
The 'Docking Unit' is most commonly used to refer to the cradle which the head unti sits in, but this can clearly not be the case from the sizes specified on the empeg site... a bit of clearing up please Hugo :o)
