Apparently I was careless and didn't uncheck some default box somewhere or other when installing a piece of software, and now my Firefox header is polluted by a toolbar I don't want but apparently asked for, or rather failed to not ask for.

This is a toolbar featuring the Ask search engine, with icons for "My Stuff", "Zoom", "News", "Weather", "Shopping", and other completely useless stuff.

How do I make it go away? Is there any way of finding out what caused it to be installed so I can let them know what I think of them and their product?

Assuming it is the toolbar from Ask.com:

How do I uninstall the Ask Toolbar?

You can easily uninstall the Ask Toolbar using the instructions below:

Firefox 1.5

1. From the "Tools" menu choose "Extensions".
2. A list with all your installed Firefox extensions will pop up. Find "Ask Toolbar", click on it.
3. In the bottom left corner of the list window click "Uninstall".
4. Restart Firefox.

Firefox 2.0

1. From the "Tools" menu choose "Add-ons".
2. A list with all your installed Firefox extensions will pop up. Find "Ask Toolbar", click on it.
3. Three buttons will appear underneath the "Ask Toolbar" listing. Click "Uninstall".
4. Restart Firefox.

The irony would be if he used the Ask toolbar itself to try to search for that information, and it didn't return any results. smile

Ummm... my list only has two extensions: "Download Accelerator Plus", and "Talkback." There isn't anything about the Ask Toolbar.

I can go to "View" in Firefox and deselect the Ask toolbar so it no longer displays... but I'd prefer to get rid of it altogether.

??
