Hi,

On the Honda S2000 Electronics Board we have mostly been talking on the best
head units that are available. It would be nice if we could make the Empeg
(RioCar) use the Dash Controls. I guess this would most likely be wired up via the serial port from what I can tell right?

Also a PCMCIA slot would be nice.

The Radio unit has a socket for Sony control stalks built in. It would be possible to make a PIC to interpret the s2000's signals and send the appropriate translation. The prototype looks like the perfect harmonius solution for you.

[ornage]Also a PCMCIA slot would be nice.

There is no room and would need to be major redesign to fit it in. There have been lots of photos of people who have glued a network cable in the correct position for just this purpose. From there you could put in an airport or whatever.

I really would like to see the controls hardwired without the need for IR.
I know there is talk about the Sony unit, but I will need to do more research
if that does exactly what I am looking for.

These external boxes/gadgets don't use IR. Have a look at the tech and prog sections and there should be info on building and programming control devices. From the information on the paged that you listed this project should be cake for some of the folk out there.
A decoder chip to sense the resistance on the wire, a few plugs and a small bit of programming. I'm no elc. eng. person but this seems to be quite easy for those who know.
