Hi everyone,
I'm hoping that someone can help me solve my empeg woes and bring some life back into my commute. My empeg suffered a fall some months ago which broke the VFD fill nipple. The unit was still in good working order without a display until recently, and now it powers up for a short time, then shuts down. Before it shuts down the front panel LED is steady on for 10 seconds and the drives spin for 20 seconds. After that everything is quiet and dark except for the red LED on the motherboard. The unit is a Mk2 running v2.00 and emphatic and a newish version of Hijack. Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated. This community has already helped me through 2 repair jobs and I am very happy to see that it is still going!
Thanks,
Norm

Oh, and the VFD can be replaced on the displayboard if you want. Various people have spares and whatnot.

Cheers

Couldn't you see what the screen was trying to say via weblite?

I guess a boot log would be the first thing to check, though.

Nothing jumps out at me as being strange, but I'm certainly not an expert on this sort of thing.
Also, while I was messing around I discovered that through Hijack's web interface, I can stream files off of the player, but I can't get the unit to actually play anything. (not in the car or plugged into my home stereo)

Since you have Hijack installed, it means you can run this.

Try it out and let's see what you get.

How is that different to weblite?

Sorry- no empeg here to poke around and figure things out. Just a quick question.

It's got a faster refresh time than weblite. :-)

It's uni-platform, so it works only for some people rather than for all of us.

Are you sure the unit isn't simply in standby mode? Tap the top button on the front once after it finishes powering-up.

It's working again! When I went to bed yesterday after installing weblite and trying to use it, the front panel was still dark and the weblite display was showing no activity. I was frustrated with it and went to bed, forgetting to unplug the empeg. When I woke up, the front panel LED was steady on, so I decided to give it another go. I tried to start a playlist through weblite and got the visuals to start on the weblite display. I moved the router to the next room so I could try the empeg on my stereo while it was still on the network. It was sweet music to my ears, literally. I've already tried it in my truck and it seems to be working perfectly. Thank you everyone for your help!
Thanks,
Norm

I would be very interested in obtaining one of these. Anyone who has one please let me know what you want for it.
