Hi All, I am willing to PAY for the earliest versions of the firmware and emplode software. It's needed desperately. The mk1 unit I have is serial number 00247 - unfortunately it's got a much later release of firmware with a copyright date of 1999 - 2001 version 2 beta 1.1 I really need the original software that shipped with it!
Please help!
Paul

As a bit of history, the original Mark 1 hardware was finished long before the software was. The Mark 1 owners in general were very trusting and very patient with us in that period, and that formed part of the origin of the close relationship Empeg has always had with the owners. I don't think "Version 1.00" of the software was done until after we'd shipped the last Mark 1 -- the Announcements forum on this board still has the v1 launch announcement, and it's in August 2000, when we'd already started shipping Mark 2s. I'm not sure what the last revision shipped with a Mark 1 was, but it was probably v1 beta 12 at the latest. The very first Mark 1s shipped probably had custom builds. Peter

Sounds like I need Version1 beta something-or-other? Yes. The software versions go something like beta1, beta2, ..., beta12, beta12a, beta12b, beta12c, v1rc1, v1.00, ..., v1.02, v2beta1, v2beta2, ... v2beta13, v2.00, v2.01, v3alpha1, ..., v3alpha11. Not all the alphas and betas were publicly released. Originally v2 was going to be called "v1.1", but I think all the actual releases were after it was rebranded as "v2". The v3 alphas do not work on Mark 1 hardware. Peter

Paul I'm intrigued, why do you need such early versions?

Andy, it's for a video on mp3 players. I've been instructed that it MUST display "copyright 1999" on power up - not "1999 -2001". Pedantic I know..... but a "must have"

Mmm.. well, with vim on a Linux system. The easiest way to accomplish this, is to first install the oldest player software version you can find. Then remove the hard drive from the empeg and attach it to a Linux box (via a USB dongle, or whatever).
Then, something like this:
mkdir /x mount /dev/sdb4 /x ## replace sdb with actual device name cp /x/empeg/bin/player /x/empeg/bin/player.orig vi /x/empeg/bin/player
## in vim, search for 1998-200 and overtype it with whatever you like. ## Do NOT delete or insert any characters, just overtype them. ## Save the file when finished.
umount /x
Done. Put the drive back into the empeg and see what happens.

I can probably do all of that here for you, if you make your original ancient software .upgrade file available to me. Then you could just install the .upgrade file, without the need to remove/reinstall/edit the hard drive etc..
The oldest I have here is v1.02.

I've been instructed that it MUST display "copyright 1999" on power up - not "1999 -2001". Why 1999, rather than 1998 ? Eg. v1.02 normally displays: ©1998-2001 empeg Ltd

strange thing for a project to demand anything than the org.?

If I don't "come up with the goods" ... I don't get paid... simple as that. I've already had major grief about it being late. I have to admit though, of all the "devices" I've sourced, far and away the "Empeg" is still the best I've seen! I'm hoping to be able to "Sneak it away" for my car when he's finished! .............

Is this some sort of patent prior art thing? If so then faking a 1999 copyright would surely not help the case very much, even if you could find someone sufficiently unconcerned about the legal status of copyright to do so. Peter

Ah okay. I was just curious. Somebody awhile ago had come hunting for prior art for some unspecified patent case and they had very specific requests for dates and versions.

I guess it wouldn't look too good when announcing on film "This is the empeg, the very first commercial car mp3 player from 1998/1999" and then it splats "2001" on the display!

see what it splats and then say "This is the empeg, the very firs...." in that way you get it right..
