Can't access Tomato GUI

Ok, here's an odd one. A while back I updated to the latest Tomato - I was way behind - I had no idea new versions had even been released in the past few years.
I'm pretty sure I reached the web UI after the update, but lately I can't get it to come up - tried multiple browsers on multiple machines.
The router is being used only for routing, including DHCP, DNS. It's otherwise working properly, handing out IP addresses, routing traffic out to the internet via connected cable modem on the WAN port, etc.
Just can't connect to the web UI at the router's IP address. Thinking maybe the IP was reset to some default, I checked that the IP address is what I expect it to be and reported as the Gateway/Router on every system connected to it.
Odd.

Meh. Rebooted the router and all seems good now. Ok, move along, nothing to see here.
I think it's the fact I've got my 3rd cold in the past month affecting my brain. Can you believe it, 3 times sick in a single month? I don't think I've ever had more than 2 colds in a year before.

Ok, here's an odd one. A while back I updated to the latest Tomato - I was way behind - I had no idea new versions had even been released in the past few years. I'm wondering if you're more affected by that cold than you thought (or maybe we just have missing information here). As far as I know, the Tomato firmware hasn't been updated for over a couple years now. Tomato USB has had some work done on it and supports more modern routers, though. Maybe you flashed Tomato USB over Tomato and the router needed another reset to get all the kinks out?

Maybe Bruno is using one of the modified versions.

Na, I'm using 1.28 from the original author, but I'd previously only been using 1.23 http://www.polarcloud.com/tomatoIt had been a long long time since I'd updated it. And yes, that web page subscribes to one of my pet peeves. Writing anything on a web site without marking it with a date.

Ah, I see. Yeah, I was confused because it's been ages since that thing was updated

Yeah, it seems it was in 2010 - I think I read somewhere that it was around 18 months ago. But I hadn't updated since a long time before that, so I was pleasantly surprised that I wasn't running the last version to be developed. And now I see that a number of offshoots have been made, but I can't figure out why they're all still versioning their releases as 1.28. The ones I've seen screen shots of also mucked up the UI.

Seems I was wrong, it wasn't just a case of a simple reboot fixing the issue. Well, it did, but it's back now. I get an error at the browser when trying to hit the router by IP: Got java.io.EOFException (Server closed connection while sending the HTTP header.):

Perhaps you might try logging into the router (it's a Linux box) and see if there's anything "interesting" in the kernel logs?
Just telnet to it, login with the same userid/passwd as with the web GUI (defaults are "root" and "admin"), and issue the dmesg command to see the logs.

Connection refused. If telnet isn't enabled I'll have to rescue the webUI first and use this "the next time." Ugh.

Haven't been able to get into telnet yet. Defaults didn't work. Password used with webUI didn't work. Found new password setting in admin config, changed it - still didn't work.
Rebooted, now working. login: root, password what I just set.
Hmm.. I also noticed that the router isn't saving its bandwidth reports anymore, even though it has a working CIFS path defined for the files to be stored.

My network/system issues just continue. Logitech Music server stopped working today out of the blue. No idea why.
Uninstalled it, re-installed and did a scan. I thought the scan was going along well, but now after it's completed, I have 0 files added. It seems to have found all my music and then, according to the brief status messages in the setup UI, it removed them because the music was all "deleted"
Ugh.

It must be something like that because I've never known anybody to have as many "issues" with software & hardware as bruno does!

Thanks John. If only they started rolling back for a few years. I've just got a lot of hardware and software. WRT to the LMS, honestly, I hadn't been touching that computer at all up until some modem driver installation yesterday. At the same time I also installed YAC to monitor and send messages for CallerID, and installed and uninstalled a couple of small apps and scripts that were for the same purpose. They shouldn't have had anything to do with LMS failing. The scan issue I found seems to be a bug. I had the "Playlist" folder spec empty on this run and I think that's what killed all the music after the scan. It seems similar to an older bug they had supposedly fixed. Can anyone else reach the web site: www.groths.org ?? I can't get it to come up from my network, but one of those online checking sites says it's working.
A more pressing and persistent issue in a new thread...
