I looked at the Neo25 a while back and almost purchased, anyone tried the new model and can comment on software / battery life ?

wasn't that in reference to the neo 35 car player this link goes to the neo 25 portable which appears to be new

Neo25 portable player has been around a while, and this is an updated version of the portable player. As you say certainly not based at all on the Neo35 car player ( this uses 3.5" drives, where the Neo25 uses 2.5" laptop drives ).

this version looks more refined than the first one. I looked at it on the ssiamerica website but I can't find anyone selling it. I think this looks like the best portable hdd based unit. I like the size and shape better than the creative labs player and it can't be as heavy as the archsos player

But 5 minutes skip/shock protection?? If you can get a HDD based player to skip by shaking it or dropping it then you gota start worrying!!! That puppy probaböy isn't going to be happy for much longer! It's not a CD player you know. Tja.

I like the fact they are fine about you just opening them up and poping a hard drive in, also file taxi ability. Shame USB only, wonder if the software can cope with several thousand tracks, and battery life.
