… one areas Apple needs a kick up the arse on. It is insane that iOS doesn’t use the metadata it has on the app to help find apps.

Agreed. Apple has always required the user to know the ‘code name’ for the app they wish to use.
Code names are fine when an app is in development and you want to keep the app purpose secret from the outside world. But app names are often non-guessable if you know the functionality but not the actual name of the app you want to launch.
Shortcuts are a useful hack to add a more memorable or findable app name, but fall short of being a complete solution. I often go hunting for a rarely used app on my Mac (or iDevice) and spend time scrolling along until I see the app and recognize that is the app I am looking for.
I do use app grouping on iPad and iPhone, which helps a bit.
