Just been reading about the GPS speed camera alerters and had a thought - surely this could be done with an empeg..?
The empeg could be used to store a database of the camera coordinates and would compare this with the current position from a GPS connected to the serial port.
It could then play a warning sound if you were approaching a camera.

Anyone got any thoughts..?

Provided that a reliable, cooperatively maintained, free, downloadable, geocoded speed trap database is available, sounds relatively easily doable...

I got this working since about 6months - and it works great :-)
I use a free database which is available with german coordinates.

How does one get that database and what area does it cover? It would certainly make one of those compact RS232 equipped GPS receivers built into antenna worth their price.

Wow!
Would you care to share it with us?
I had planned a similar project some months ago, but I
never got it finished. I planned on having some way of
"marking" a position, when I spotted a speeding-camera.

In Norway, this would be very useful, but so far, I haven't
seen a single speeding trap after moving to Denmark.

I allready have a GPS with a serial port in my car, so
I'd very much like to try your software. If it's only working
in germany, that's fine with me :-)

I got the data from http://www.radarfalle.de/
it covers complete germany, but at the moment there are
no moving sensors in the databse.

at the current stage, I think its too buggy/ hacked for distribution.
But if I have some time to make it more user-friendly - I will share it :)
(the problem: now, I am for about 6 months in China - without my empeg :-(
