Hehe, I have set up a Website monitor, that scans the site every minute.
If there are any updates it will send me a SMS on my mobile phone.

At least now I don't have to hit refresh all the time...

And the scary thing is that I posted that as a joke....

But still have the equipment ready to go...

Rob, I'm not sure if I should be grateful for the release notes this far in advance of the released software or not. I was anticipating the release before.... Now, I was thinking last night.:

Empeg is in England... They are chronologically AHEAD of us... Maybe it's on an crontab for 12:01 GMT.......

I'd say I can't wait... But obviously, we have.

I'm just thrilled that we won't have to hear "It's in 1.1/2.0" RSN...

Although, probably not as thrilled as the empeg crew...

Can I get in on that? You would save me the trouble and save the server from getting bombarded. I am sending you my pager address in a private message incase you can.

Crack addict? Naw, crack's got nothing on the empeg. Hell, I had to build a new serial cable just for this, as I'm not sure where my other one is... I cleaned up my appartment, and have since not been able to find anything.

If this works (which I'm sure it will), you should add this as a public service to Riocar.org or empeg.org. It would be fantastic to be notified somehow of new updated -even the non empeg written stuff like new hacks would be nice.

Then if you could make the standby LED go solid to indicate an update is available that would be something!!

Yup... Same boat here, my empeg provided serial cable is at the house.... Plus I built a Win2k box (I use Linux 99.9% of the time) just to load the images and the new emplode...

I'm willing to add anyones e-mail address to the notifier I have running from my server. Just send me a private message, and I'll add it into the list. (I simply threw the empeg beta site into the URL list of a script program I mainly use to know when new drivers are out).

This is the message I have setup: "The empeg beta file download page changed. 2.0 may be out!"

I have a bad feeling that the folks@empeg will need a mirror site before this is over...

If there were a bricks and mortar store we'd all be camped outside waiting in sleepingbags. I'm not one for this type of activity but i was really distressed when windoze inexplicably broke the dial-up connection this morning. I've brought the computer in to work to fix it.
I don't know what crack addicts go through but this is a really anxious time!!

I've now gone 24 hours without sleep. I think the delay of this beta has decreased productivity as people mindlessly sit reloading. Nevertheless I have faith in the decisions of the boys in cambridge-- i'm sure they're hard ay work fixing some gross bugs that our oh-so-through alpha team happened to find. (what ever happened to those addresses?) ok, the lack of sleep is getting to me. the quality of conversation of this board has gone to zero as people like me babble about how they need 2.0. maybe I should delete this ramble. no.

Why is the only image I get is all the students at RPI sleeping outside the student center waiting for hockey tickets? They camp out weeks in advance to get good seats. Please don't tell me I have turned into an Empeg junkie.

Well so far I have 14 people on the list, awaiting my script to not do the same thing it has been doing for a short while now. From looking at the addresses, 8 people will be notified by SMS, and the rest by e-mail.

SMS notification? Wow, that would be cool. Do you know if that would work internationally (to a german mobile phone)? In the meantime, could you add [email protected] to the list?

The SMS notifications are all going to e-mail addresses that are then sent as an SMS message. Most providers here in the US have it set to (phonenumber)@provider.net

I went ahead and added that address for you.

Pretty slick, but if you can rig it up so that it automatically posts a news story to riocar.org when it detects 2.0 is out, I'll be really impressed. :)

The Empeg guys could be real mean and change the HTML to say "There are STILL no files in this section" just to send out a false alarm with your detection script. But they're not that sadistic... or are they?
