Hello everyone; A few weeks ago, I was requesting information concerning the installation of the EMPEG in a Jetta. Here are pictures of the installation. It all works like a charm. The OEM system is still there and the EMPEG works as a "CD". Pics are at: EMPEG in Jetta URL

Please provide details of what was required to integrate the empeg into the factory sound system like that. We would love to hear.

Also, put those pictures up in the install gallery at riocar.org!

I am about to install my empeg MKI with the factory monsoon head unit on my 2001.5 Passat.

If anyone is interested, I FINALLY found a way to do it without replacing the head unit. There is a company called BlitzSafe that sells an adapter that you can hook into the CD changer input that tricks the head unit into thinking the empeg is a CD changer.

They are at http://www.blitzsafe.com

I will show pics once the install is complete.

John

How do we add pictures to the install section? I've got some that I'd love to put in...

Not sure, haven't done it yet. First, you have to be logged in as a member, and then I think you just go into the gallery and follow the appropriate links.

Someone on the admin staff at Riocar.org has to create a gallery for you first. (It's a manual process right now).

I've created a gallery for you grgcombs. Go to the Install Gallery section of the site, and you will have one with your name, and editing permission.

If anyone else wants one, send me a message here or on Riocar.org

Drakino,

Could you please create a gallery for me to post in. I'm going to be upgrading to an Empeg from a NEO this week and will happy to post some install porn.

My current install is at http://www.geocities.com/neo35faq under the Santa Fe pictures. You can just name the gallery JarredDuq.

Thanks

So I can't just go to the west coast user meet group photo and edit the caption to add names. You know the top/middle/front row names left to right kind of thing. Actually me doing that would be kind of useless. I only know one guy for absolute positive sure.

BTW: That one guy looks like is image has been reversed, left-right.

You can go and post comments on any photo though, as long as you are logged into the site.

I had been logged in when I tried adding a comment. When I went back to the photo and tried to comment, the "go login message" came up and when I did it took me back to my preferences page. (or whatever its called.)

More info...
Yep once I leave the configurations page, it acts like I'm logged out. I can change back to my configuration page and it acts like I'm logged in again.

Sounds like one of two things:

1. The logon cookie is getting screwed up somehow. Try deleting any riocar.org cookie you have.

2. Your ISP/proxy is overly caching the pages. Try doing a Shift-Reload to get around this. (Many ISP's now, including @Home are running transparent proxies that normally don't cause problems, but they can cause issues like this).

Drakino, shouldn't certain pages at the site be marked with the "pragma nocache" tag to prevent this very problem?

ok, It's my browser, exploder worked, the other didn't, even after cache/cookie clearing and forced reloads. Any time i switched to a gallery, the sidebar showed me as anon. While in other pages I was logged in as me. Strange.

FWIW The browser I'm currently addicted to is OmniWeb.

OmniWeb is a little flakey on caching. I have had to disable caching of html to avoid problems like that with it. Try...

Preferences->Cache->Original HTML (set it to a really low number or 0)

All of them are, and thats the problem. Apache shipps this way by default. And 50% of the web servers out there are Apache. So I don't believe many proxies care about that setting anymore.

Hi Janosch.

I added an album for you, but I couldn't apply the needed permissions, as you don't seem to have a login there yet. Create one and tell me which one you use, and I will enable you to add/modify/remove photos to/in/from your album.

That would suit me very well! - can you live without nested directories tho? I'm not sure I fancy scrolling through 200 albums... - I presume it limits you to one level of organisation with directories as discs and each file as a track.

I've been teatering precariously on the fence since the EOL anouncement so now it's a case of:
1) Wait for OEM mk 3 (without ethernet ) :(
2) Buy the Pioneer unit when it's out and lose the geek-appeal
Or...
3) install it as a changer...

I've allready mailed blitzsafe...

Tom

That's not what Bamboo was talking about. You cannot control the empeg as if it were a CD changer. There is no interface for doing this, and there is no support in the software for it.

What Bamboo meant was that he found an audio adapter which will route line-level audio into his factory stereo as if it were coming from a CD changer. In this case, he is concerned only with the audio routing, not the control interface.

By the way, there won't be a MK3, and "OEM" means a car manufacturer (in other words, you'd have to buy a new car).

Not necessarily. Hugo said they plan to pursue both car manufacturers (or more correctly, OEMs who produce audio equipment for them) and makers of aftermarket brands. There is still a possibility for 'son of empeg' aftermarket unit . However, more practical and all that, it won't be a decent empeg replacement for me.
