"oooooh...."

"aaaaahhhh..."

Those are actually pretty cool photos of the fireworks. So is there an English holiday commonly involving fireworks around this time of year? Here in the US, we use them to celebrate... umm... never mind.

Hey Tony, they have Fourth of July in England ... it just signifies the day after the Third of July ...

November 5th is Guy Fawkes night, celebrating a foiled plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1604. The unfortunate Mr Fawkes was subsequently hanged for high treason.

The occassion is celebrated with fireworks and - traditionally - a large bonfire on which a "guy" is burned. It's all in the name of entertainment, though.

You're right that we don't celebrate July 4 as energetically as you, however we do let out the occassional smile as we remember getting rid of that damned colony across the ocean

My favourite example of this type of image trick is here at Multimap where they use it to overlay a map section on an aerial image.

(the red circle by the way is where my house is)

Yeah, very slick. Wish they had US maps in there. Most of the U.S. map sites stink.

I wish they had aerial photo coverage of the whole of the UK, let alone the US...
