I'm in the middle of replacing my 10Gb drive with 2 19Gb drives. It's currently copying everything from the 10Gb to one of the 19Gb drives.

How long (approx) should it take to copy 10Gb worth of MP3's from one drive to the other? It's been going for over 2 hours now.

Last message in Hyperterminal was:

/drive1/fids/980 -> /drive0/fids/980

If that is any help.

Let us know if it all goes OK. Since I rewrote the FAQ, I want to make sure everything is still working as expected. I am especially interested in knowing if the commands for copying files worked correctly, as I've never actually done that before.

The FAQ was perfect. Everything worked (with a few user-errors) fine.

One problem I had that might be worth mentioning is that one of the hex bolts that hold the front panel on was stuck inside the hex nut and so the whole thing came away, meaning that the front panel and the blue plasticy thing were still attached. Made putting it back together again a bit tricky with all the buttons.

It's spot on. I've been using Linux since '92, so I could have done it without the FAQ, but when it agrees with what you intend to do you get that nice comfy feeling. As I was moving the contents from a 10 and a 18 GB disk to a new 30GB, keeping the content of a new 10G disk (from the MkII) and putting it into the MkI along with the original MkI disk (erased) the only snag I ran into was the fact that my download of the 2.0b-MkI-developer upgrade file was corrupted, giving me segfaults...

Had me worried for a little while until I realized what the problem was...

Oh, and when copying from the 18GB disk I had to do it in two stages, as bash complained about to many arguments on the command line when trying to cp .../* So I did a cp .../1* first, followed by a cp .../[23456789abcdef]*

You might also want to mention in the FAQ that you will not get the same sort of speeds as when copying from disk to disk on a normal PC.
I (very) roughly estimated the speed of my copying to about 1.5-2MB/s. The copying was done on a MkI.

I had exactly the same problem on my Rio v2a, but did not have the problem on the Empeg v2. Looks like there is thread lock on the hex bolts. Luckily only one got stuck, so I wound it out a fair bit, then got some pin nosed pliars onto the part at the back of the screen, so that I could unscrew the hex bolt with allen key sucessfully.
