I've ordered my Empeg, but will really miss my Sony headunit + CD multichanger.
Does anyone know whether there are any UK cars which will take two headunits, so I can have an Empeg and keep existing system.

Yeah, the Nissan Primera (well the P10 Primera anyway) has two DIN slots.

The MR2 has 2 DIN slots. See my earlier post for details of how I used them.

Cheers,

Mark.

There are ways to keep your original head unit in the car.... but why would you want to?

To me at least, the primary charm of the empeg is that it lets you get rid of the CD player - you know, that thing that will only play for about an hour before you have to swap CDs in and out. Or worse yet, make you stop and open the trunk (oops, sorry Brit - open the boot) and mess around swapping CDs in the changer. Don't forget the delights of having the thing skip every time you go over the railroad tracks. And isn't it fun carrying around a big box with all your CDs in it just so you can have your music close at hand? Thanks but no thanks - I won't miss my CD player in the slightest when it is gone. I will just enjoy having full random access to 125 hours of the very best music taken in bits and pieces from my CD collection.

I suppose there might be a small downside in that I can't listen to any CD that I haven't downloaded into the empeg, but I think it's a small price to pay.

I'm keeping my original head unit, because it's a dual CD/MD slot loader. It's useful for when you go for a drive with your mates, and one of them has an MD or CD they would like to hear on the big system.. (Especially as one of my mates has a little studio, and uses MD to test the mix =)
As to a CD holding only an hour, that's when you press the aux button and crank up the empeg..
Best of both worlds.. =)

Hi !
This is not only valid for UK cars, i guess, but most cars can be upgraded to 2 DIN slots, no problem, just take a good look in some car-o-mania catalogues :)
Shouldn't be no problem for all popular cars.
( I had this for some cars, even for my crappy Volkswagen Golf it is no problem ... )

My Mazda has 2 holes, one has the clarion head unit, which connects to the cd changer in the boot, but below that is a DIN sized space which serves as a storage space at the mo, you can see it can come out though. I would like to be able to put my empeg unit in there and connect that to the clarion. I'll probably ditch the cd-changer but not if I don't have to. I'll have to get someone to do the install tho, 'cos what I know about car audio installs is less than Micro$oft know about Linux :)

After seeing all the replies to your message, I am not sure if this is what you are asking about:

UK Car with 2*DIN dashboard?

I have a Saab 9000 Turbo, and it has 3 DIN slots in the Dash. One has extra gauges (oil temp, etc.)
Two has my current Kenwood head-unit. And, Three is empty - patiently awaiting my Empeg.

Um... does your Kenwood head unit use a remote by chance? I have the PS907 and it uses the exact same remote that empeg is shipping. Needless to say, I can't have both powered up at the same time and use a remote :(
