Are there any FM modulators that would work with the empeg? ie, connect the empeg to my existing stereo via an fm modulator?

Also, can I mount the unit at an angle? will that mess up the harddrives? I have a grand cherokee with an infinity system in it with cd changer connected that I'm rather partial to. I was thinking of mounting the empeg on the passenger side of center floor console. To the right of the cupholders. That would leave it a an almost upright angle so that I could see and control it.

ramseyelectronics.com makes some that I think would work well, I'd be able to tell you buy the kit I bought I screwed up :), spend the extra money for a premade one!

The empeg can be mounted in any direction and is REALLY durable...

The sound quality isn't going to be the greatest but I think as a non audio person I would be able to live with it.

What's the point of keeping a CD changer hooked up via an FM modulator? Any advantage that the CDs offer over the empeg are destroyed by the lack of frequency response from FM radio.

Might as well rip those CDs and get *better* quality.

Now, if you want that extra added bit of quality CD offers, you'll have to figure out a way to run the output into the aux inputs.

I have an Infinity Gold factory system (amp, stereo, speakers) with cd changer controls. The changer is directly plugged into system and I can control everything from the stereo.

I like a lot of the features of the stereo and would like to keep it. I was trying to come up with an easy method of hooking the empeg into the whole setup.

With an empeg in there I can see giving up the changer, but I like my equalizers, speaker controls, and am/fm stereo.

Actually, this isn't quite true - the empeg needs to be mounted horizontal (+/- about 8 degrees I seem to remember) as this lets the shock mounts work as intended: this is noted in the installation guide.

I seem to remember a very similar discussion in the Installation forum. Maybe the Ford Explorer thread?

Since you don't seem to want all the features of the Empeg unit (though I don't understand that) and insist on keeping your factory radio - then take a look at the www.mp3kit.com - it's a hardware solution that could be piped in and uses a HDD for storage. It's about ~250US.

I think my car installation would have the head unit at a slightly steeper angle. I think 10 degrees or more. How big of a problem would that be?

Hmmm... that would the preclude installing it in a RangeRover for starters as the stereo slot in that it almost vertical...

The HDDs in the unit are tilted forward at 8 degrees already, which means the range of the unit from horizontal is 16 degrees back or 8 degrees forward - this covers most installations.

It's definitely *not recommented*, especially if you have harsh suspension, off-road, etc, to mount the unit vertically.
