My empeg (mk 2 - 2.00 beta 7) locks up after pushing the 'down'-button three times...
The only thing that is displayed is the sandclock, and the buttons don't do anything - so I have to restart the unit.
I didn't see that in beta 3.

I Shuffle On or Off when you press the down button three times?

If it is On, what is the custom mode selected for the shuffle? And does turning shuffle off fix the problem?

shuffle is off, but the root-directory itself is set to play in random order.

Interesting. Have you tried turning Shuffle on and then pressing down-down-down? Or turning off the "always randomize" check box on that root folder and re-synching?

If it still has trouble, perhaps there is an item somewhere deep in the tree that's causing problems. Would be interesting to find out which one. Get a serial log if you can.

After I've started emplode beta 7 for the first time, it reported several tag errors.
Also, the root directory was not set to random any more... so I set it to random and did a re-sync - now everything works fine !

Hmm. Maybe Rob should put a note in the release documentation: "Synch with the new emplode after installing the software".

It might even make sense if the upgrade process offered to kick off a sync for you once the upgrade was complete ?

oops, it did it again... (it's not that innocent )

i tried to catch this in a serial log, but the problem just didn't occur... but there are other things i see in the log that may be connected:

while the unit is playing, i see lines like these all the time:

spindown_chunk_cache_runner.cpp: 292:Filling up space (28)
spindown_chunk_cache_runner.cpp: 292:Filling up space (28)
spindown_chunk_cache_runner.cpp: 292:Filling up space (27)
spindown_chunk_cache_runner.cpp: 292:Filling up space (25)

and on startup i see these lines:

I see this is a developer image!
Mounting proc
Mounting first music partition
Tried to mount /dev/hda4 as reiserfs but got error 19
Mounting second music partition
Remounting first music partition read-only
Remounting second music partition read-only

You're describing the exact same problem I have. Even the messages on the serial console are the same. Click here to see my posting.

I was busy preparing a report containing results of tests suggested by others, when one of my harddrives crashed between numerous powercycles.

I'll try to post my preliminary findings soon.
