I just got my MK 2, it's everything I expected and more.

But...all the webpages make it look like the screen is a lot more of a blue color than mine actually is...mine's more light cyan. Is this normal? because I think a more saturated blue would be cool!

A more saturated blue may be unviewable in sunlight. Contact DarkStorm, he maybe able to make one up for you.

The original Blue is a bit pale. A long time ago I played around with my Inkjet printer and some OHP film to see if I could make some freaky coloured screens (you'll find my original post here if you're interested in having a go yourself. I've just put back one of my multicoloured screens. Only trouble is they're not anti-reflective. But they are cheap and quite effective. The photo in my original post was just a vertical gradient from Magenta to Blue. Have a go, I think you'll be surprised at how effective they look. BTW I'm laminating them now to protect the Gelatin (or whatever it is) layer.

When we designed the Mk.2 I ran dozens of test colour tints (which took a while, considering how long it takes to flush through an injection moulding machine) and decided on the colour you see now. It gives the best colour/brightness compromise since the VFD itself has quite a strong green component.

The first mini-batch of players actually shipped with a much deeper blue, which looked nice but was too dark to be useful in sunlight.

Dark blue which I got by mistake (as you may remember, Rob) and I can assure you Narin, it is impossible to read during a normally birght day, unless your empeg is very down in the dash, with some sort of protection form the sunlight. This blue is simply perfect, instead, even during sunny days. Unless sun shines right on it, you can read it.

That sounds very much like my recently purchased Mk2a unit.. very dark blue display (no trace of cyan whatsoever).

Take a look at my recent post about this.

My original empeg as well as two of my recent orders feature the darker (but normal by all accounts) blue. I suspect this is not the dark blue that Rob was talking about. I have confirmed with a few other people and theirs are also using the darker blue like on mine.

The third new unit I received has a different blue lens. Much lighter. The darker one you can almost call Navy when it's up against white paper. The new one is definitely not. I posted two pics, one direct from camera and one which I colour corrected to match what they look like by eye.

Same story here. One recent, three days ago, (10gig) is navy (as was my original RioCar) and the latest, todays, is this brighter blue. Very classy.

Then I suppose I must have the new cyan/rare/classy lens....

Well, one thing I can say for sure is it makes the display the exact same color of my old Pioneer's organic EL display, and I really enjoyed that display. Still, I'd like to see the darker blue in real life to compare the two.

On a bright sunlit day, I think you'll be glad you have the color you have. Darker blue == less light passing through == difficult to see when washed out by sunlight.

I just drove it in the sunlight for the first time, and wow, what was I thinking, any darker blue and I wouldn't be able to see a thing!

On a totally unrelated note...my remote suddenly stopped working this morning. I thought, maybe it's too cold to function, so I drove to work with the remote in my pants to warm it up. felt like a frozen nilla wafer. anyway, I get halfway there and realize, when you select "disable kenwood remote" in emplode, that probably disables the new remotes also. silly me.

I can't confirm becuase I only have a Kenwood remote. ..But, I think the intention was to disable the Kenwood remote if you have the Rio branded remote.

I would check the battery in the remote first. Even though it's new, this has come up in the past.

Disabling the Kenwood remote should not disable the Rio remote.

The purpose of this feature is for people who have a double-DIN dash opening with a Kenwood CD player next to their empeg. That way they can control the Kenwood without also controlling the empeg at the same time.

If your Rio remote seems to die, try changing its battery first.

Sometimes the simple act of removing and re-inserting the battery can resurrect a "dead" remote.

Naw, I only bought one for my wife and a spare for me. It's not like I'm heading over to Ebay with them ;-)

The battery terminals in the Rio remotes can be a little problematic. If you continue to have problems, contact support.

The batteries are used to power the automated ordering system on Digital River's servers. They just take one out of their battery bank and stuff it into the remote before they ship your unit out. That's probably why the battery is dying (or dead).

I replaced mine with another I had around and it worked perfectly. The biggest problem is that when the battery goes, it does it in a sporadic way. But if there's a real problem with the remote, David's the one to hook you up.
