My 60GB is too big.
My 10GB is too small.
A 30 and 40 will be just right.

The 10 has a Fujitsu drive and the 60 has two IBM's.

Any tips on transplanting one of the 30GB dirves to the 10GB Empeg?

I've uploaded about 12 GB of music on the Empeg 60 and am planning to download it all to my PC drive before physically moving the 30GB drive. I assume I'll need to recreate the playlists and that I can clone the Empeg 60 (which will turn into a 30) to the Empeg 10 (which will turn into a 40 with a higher serial number).

Should I do anything else or differently? I'm hoping that I don't need to re-initialize the discs. I'm running V2 beta 7 on both units.

You don't need to re-initialize the discs. Just copy the FIDS directories. Details in the Drive Upgrade Guide at riocar.org.

Note: Fids on one player may conflict with fids on the other. You might have to re-load the music.

I've got a 20GB IBM I can trade you for one of your 30GB IBM's so you can have two 30GB players.

I think the easiest way to do this would be to move any FID in the /drive1/fids directory to /drive0/fids on the 60GB unit (from the empeg command line), then remove the slave drive and add it to the 10GB unit. Shouldn't have to do anything else...
I don't think any database stuff is stored in /drive1, but can't check right now as my player is in what seems an eternal fsck (oh, for the love of a journalling filesystem...) Even if there were, a rebuild/sync should regenerate the DBs...

I guess I skipped over Step 7 in the "Drive Upgrade Guide" that more-or-less covers this scenario and explains the fids copy process.

Stable? What, you're worried it's going to go postal or something? I guess I see your point. I know that if I lost my old partner, I'd be unstable, too.

To answer your question: As long as there aren't any duplicate FIDs on the hard disk(s), and as long as you force a database rebuild (from synching), all should be well, the player is designed to auto-detect the number of discs present.
