I just purchased a 30gb EMpeg and I uploaded about 9gb of MP3's to it with emplode 2.0B7 and the available space is saying I've used 18gb of space on the drive and only have 10gb remaining? Why am I loosing have of my space. The linux client also says the same number. I rewiped my drive, made sure there was nothing left on it, reuploaded everything and the same problem. It almost appears files are being uploaded twice, is this possible? Or could it be the clustersize is rather large on the drive so I'm loosing that much space?

Thanks

Well with the linux client I've gone in a done a repair and it shows nothing to be repaired. Originally I did have about 600 items that were orphaned and repaired that and my space still wasn't correct. That is why I deleted everything, made sure I was at 0Mb and reuploaded everything and I'm still off by quite a bit.

Well when I got mine(30 gig) my free space was 27gigs. Now I'm down to about 21 when I only put about 5 gigs on it, so its kinda odd.

Your "problem" is normal. 27 real GB is about the size of a 30GB drive. Drive manufacturers measure everything base10 for marketing purposes.

Unfortunately I don't have any suggestions for the original problem beyond cleaning the partitions, reinstalling images and trying another sync.

Although the numbers you're reporting seem too high for this to account for it, do take a peek at this FAQ entry just in case that's the problem.

Note that if you have uploaded a file to the music partion via FTP, it will reduce the available space without registering as being "used" in emplode.

I just noticed that when browsing through EMplode, under each artist and each album, I have duplicate songs. Every artist as the same song listed twice, but under playlists they are only listed once. Could it be that my songs are being uploaded twice since that is about how much space I've lost. I guess maybe I'm uploading them wrong. All I do is drag the contents of my MP3 folder over to the Playlists section. They are all sorted in directories of Artist Name\Album Name. I guess another question would be of the roughly 9gb I'm uploading, it took me 6.5 hours to do it, is this normal speed? (Generally I've done them all at once). Also with this Artists problem, could this have anything to do with songs that have both ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags as all of my files have both (good old www.ultratagger.com)? Thanks for any input.

Do you have .m3u files in with your mp3s? This will import the files twice, and has bitten me in the past. There's an option to turn off .m3u imports in emplode somewhere.

Well that's the problem. Yep, I have a playlist for each folder. I just found JEmplode works fine and so does the linux client. Must be due to that. Thanks for the help. Going to redo everything again now.

Thanks again.

No need of redoing. Just fire an advanced search 'refs=0' (which will list tunes not referenced in any playlist), select everything from the resulting list, and delete them.

In the future, there's a configuration box in emplode which allows you to turn off the importing of M3U files and Windows links. This will prevent the double-upload in the future.

what's the difference between refs=0 and the "unattached items" playlist?

The "Unattached Items" playlist isn't in 2.x and searching (for refs=0) isn't in 1.x

Tony, it might be worth adding to the FAQ that emplode adds a fudge-factor to newly added files, because we're not quite sure how much disk space that they'll actually take up.

Once you've hit sync, it knows how much space they actually take up, so the amount of free space is accurate again (within the constraints already laid out by the FAQ).

How do you name your MP3 files? I hope you're not just naming them with song titles and then creting a playlist for each album. That will get really difficult when trying to order things in emplode. It's much easier to get a convention like Artist-Track-Song or something along those lines. That way they'll be ordered in Windows too.

Is there any other reason you have playlists for each folder?

I do (almost) this, in order to have .m3u playlists for my Rio Receiver. Then I can call them "artist - album.m3u", and have them appear correctly in the list.

I often have to remember to uncheck the "import .m3u files" box as well.

Hmm, running JEmplode v2 beta here i have both an Unattached Items entry under playlists, and the ability to do advanced searches on refs=x

So i take it they are the same thing then.

Yeah, my comments only apply to Emplode. I can't guarantee that they are the same thing, but that would be my assumption as well.

what's the difference between refs=0 and the "unattached items" playlist?

I've not found an answer to this that covers my situation; My Unattached Items list is empty but I have plenty of files returned when I perform an advanced search on refs=0

Presumably it's something I've screwed up somewhere - can anyone explain what's going on pls?
