So I would want to make sure that the car had already been modified to accept a DIN slot. If he already has amps in there, I would guess it's been modified for a newer stereo already.

Yeah, when I bought the car it already had an aftermarket stereo in it. I replaced that one with a POS Sony one which just recently quit playing CDs. I ended up buying the empeg because it simply cannot play CDs - therefore the CD playing capability can't break.

I've never seen a standard DIN slot, so I don't know what to expect. I know that the RIO will fit. The only sort of sketchy part is that the only thing to stabalize the unit is a metal strip with holes in it at the rear of the stereo (which I imagine is what the screw hole is for on the back of this and other units). I installed the Sony that died after 2 months, but I really think it was a symptom of the Sony and not my installation. I only have that confidence because it was a cheap unit and it seemed to be quite stable.

I can't give you the specs on the amp because it's in the car which is in a local shop getting a new clutch. I'll have the car by tuesday or wednesday and can give you the lowdown then.

See you on Saturday.

Yeah, before getting the empeg, I went through a few Sony CD players. They do tend to stop working after a few years.

Looking back on it, I don't understand why I kept getting Sony brand CD players. I think that each time I went to buy a new one, the Sonys had the best feature-set for the price and I figured that the amortized cost of the player was still acceptable as long as I got a couple of years' use out of it.

Yes, the hole on the back can be screwed to that metal strip to stabilize it. Does the edge of the stereo "hole" look like it will hold the bent tabs of the player's sled? If so, we could be golden. Make sure to locate a proper screw and the necessary washers to screw into that back hole.

Re: Sony

I'm a big Sony fan, but I gotta admit, they make horible phones and home speakers! I think they just make "too much" meaning that they sell everything from $20 boom boxes to $30,000 video cameras (with no tape transport!). Their video stuff is top notch - esp. the professional stuff. Walk into any, I mean ANY professional TV studio, up-link facility or what have you and all the video monitors will be Sony's. I do like my Sony HDTV and ES audio amp. My Sony cordless phone is a good paper weight though!

We did take a quick ride out to lunch, yeah. The DeLorean is an amazing looking car, but under the hood it's pretty ordinary. They have four-cylinder Volvo engines. Still very fun, though.

Pics here.

They have four-cylinder Volvo engines.
It is a 6 cyl. developed by Peugot, Renault, and Volvo. Read the FAQ.

It is underpowered, but you can tune it to about 190HP NA. Of course, you can also add a turbo charger or two.
